Lennon at tonights BWSA meeting said he was quietly confident of getting the green light on a transfer coming in tomorrow. Obviously no details on who or from where.
I feel reborn !!!! No more confussion

Come on riviman, you can tell more about what went on than that.Riviman wrote:Lennon at tonights BWSA meeting said he was quietly confident of getting the green light on a transfer coming in tomorrow. Obviously no details on who or from where.
You have done some really good stuff like this in the past.
Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
I've been quietly confident on occasion.
The quiet bit has often drawn a dividend.
Can one be quietly confident if one tells 300 people that one is quietly confident? Sounds a tad noisy to me.

Far be it from me to point this out, but Sam got us up with a cast of OAP's and a smattering of youth. Older street wise heads can make the difference where we are.
And, painful as it is to accept, theres not really much reward for building a promising young team in The Championship. Our ultimate goal will always be to get back in the Premier League. If you were somehow afforded the luxury of time to build a great young team at this level and it fails at that single goal, it'll get ripped apart for a pittance in double quick time. Leaving you back at square one and without sufficient funds or time to repeat the process.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

We were certainly linked at some point, I think during Coyle's reign.throwawayboltonian wrote:So in the QPR press conference today 'Arry has said that Shaun Wright-Phillips has flat out rejected a loan move to us (and others around our level); he also hints that SWP would rather not play and earn his fat paycheck than move for a lower wage and get game time so I don't think we've missed out massively.
Didn't we go in for him a few years back when we were in the Premier League and change our mind? How times change.

This fascinated me so, in line with your autosig, I checked it.Lord Kangana wrote:Far be it from me to point this out, but Sam got us up with a cast of OAP's and a smattering of youth. Older street wise heads can make the difference where we are.
Of the 10 most frequent starters in the team that Sam took up, only two were in their thirties: Gudni by a mile, Frandsen just about. Because we grew old with them, many of them remaining at the club, we remember then as being older than they are: Simon Charlton was 28, The Immaculate Anthony Barness 26.
Although there were older heads around, they didn't start most games: that hard-working team was built on a core of powerful youth (Gardner and Ricketts were 21, Nolan 18) and players in their mid-20s (Farrelly 24, Jussi and O'Kane 25, Elliott 26).
I'm not saying there aren't similarities with our current set-up - Vela for Nolan, Clough for Ricketts, Kellett for Gardner? - and your point about teams being broken up is valid (although not as much in the current market: how many players have gone from Champo to Prem recently?) but it interested me so I thought it might interest others too.
League games started, name, DOB, age at start of season (12.08.00)
44 Bergsson 21.07.65 - 35
38 Hansen 1.06.72 - 28

Yes - I did this calculation some years back - folks forget how young some of the team were. When Megson came in and announced one of the things we were doing was to reduce the age of the squad, it went up in average age from 28 to 29.x...(iirc - certainly went up in age)Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:This fascinated me so, in line with your autosig, I checked it.Lord Kangana wrote:Far be it from me to point this out, but Sam got us up with a cast of OAP's and a smattering of youth. Did it go down under Freedman? Felt like it did, but again, that could be an incorrect gut feeling.Worthy4England wrote:When Megson came in and announced one of the things we were doing was to reduce the age of the squad, it went up in average age from 28 to 29.x...(iirc - certainly went up in age)

as I recall he was supposedly v close (Big Zat was trying to persuade him). In the end we wouldn/t couldn't match the wonga offered at qpr and thats what he seemed to be more interested in (from the above sounds like he hasn't changed).Worthy4England wrote:We were certainly linked at some point, I think during Coyle's reign.throwawayboltonian wrote:So in the QPR press conference today 'Arry has said that Shaun Wright-Phillips has flat out rejected a loan move to us (and others around our level); he also hints that SWP would rather not play and earn his fat paycheck than move for a lower wage and get game time so I don't think we've missed out massively.

Weren't Ian Marshall and Franck Passi still playing for us in our promotion season, or is my mind playing tricks?
