Eagles isn't being released because he's shit. He's being released because his contract is up and its a merry go round up there. What happened this summer will happen again next summer.

Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
I know they've been getting hammered a lot up there, but there was one particular hammering to the league leaders (6-1) during which yon Chrissy was spectacularly at fault for one of their goals. This is from the BBC match report:
"Blackpool had only themselves to blame for the Cherries' second, as Chris Eagles tried to usher the ball out of play but was caught out by Charlie Daniels, who crossed for Wilson to convert."
Now, I know no-one's perfect, but he's not exactly showered himself in glory up there. He could 'do a job', potentially from the bench, but I reckon he'll end up where a good portion of our cast-offs seem to go - Deepdale. Last time Eagles was in the match-day squad for Blackpool was for their FA Cup third round defeat to Villa (Jan 4) when he was an unused sub. Prior to that he was hauled off at 1-0 down and the guy who replaced him scored the equalising goal.
I'd be disappointed if we signed him up during the window and it came to light that the funds we allocated to him saw us miss out on a potential signing that we'd be monitoring but didn't become available until the last minute. Not that we'd ever find out such a thing, but January isn't the time to spend wage budgets on freebies.
Giving him a trial wouldn't go amiss.

I'd have Eagles back in a flash. He makes things happen and right now I'd say we have a shortage of those players.

Only when he can be arsed bruce, he thought he was worth more than we would have offered him but couldn't be arsed proving to anyone else he was worth it.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'd have Eagles back in a flash. He makes things happen and right now I'd say we have a shortage of those players.

You clearly have sight beyond the comprehension of mere mortals Hobes.Hoboh wrote:When the obvious smacks you between the eyes only a fool would fail to see it.

It's not unreasonable for someone when threatened with a pay cut, to try and see if they can match what they're currently on elsewhere. Even when it's understandable, because the business is in trouble.
If I told our guys at work, we'd not had a good year so there was a 30% (or whatever the number was) wage cut in the offing, I'm sure many of them would look elsewhere.
That said, I think we should move on. He did ok for us - better than I thought he would when we originally signed him, his goal-scoring record wasn't too shoddy and he contributed a good few "assists". It's ok to say "when he could be arsed", but really some of the people we had in the same timeframe as Eagles, couldn't do fcuk all when they could be arsed.
Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
He just doesn't strike me as the type to come back with his tail between his legs, take a lower wage and crack on. I think if he was, he'd have got somewhere. I think he went to Blackpool with the idea being he'd keep his eye in and get the deal he's really looking for afterwards.
I still think over a 46 game season I would back him to score more goals than anyone else in our side. If Kris Commons is the missing link, but we can't afford him, then Eagles isn't a bad second choice at all.

and whilst it may be a reasonable assumption (albeit still speculation) about whatever his wage 'demands' were, I think just as big a point was that he wasn't playing, nor having the best of relationships with freedman. I'm sure anyone wouldn't fancy signing on for a couple of more years if they were in that position, no matter what the salary on offerWorthy4England wrote:You clearly have sight beyond the comprehension of mere mortals Hobes.Hoboh wrote:When the obvious smacks you between the eyes only a fool would fail to see it.![]()

I think this is the closest post to something approaching the truth. I doubt he'll come back, but he isn't the worst proposition we've ever faced.Tombwfc wrote:He just doesn't strike me as the type to come back with his tail between his legs, take a lower wage and crack on. You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

he was full of praise and admiration for the club and fans when he left, it was just the manager he didnt like. so i dont think he'd feel too badly about coming back. maybe get him on a performance bonus led type of deal? do they still have those??

accepting that it takes 2 to tango and we have no idea if lenny fancies hims as a player or what eagles thinks of lenny; and if lenny does, how many other wingers are in being considered and in what order of preference.Lord Kangana wrote:I think this is the closest post to something approaching the truth. Agree that ultimately you, I (and it seems a majority on here) would be quite happy to have him back, if the stars aligned and it happened

Bob's thread teeters on the edge of absolute disaster. Paddy Kenny's now left the club.

They do at Blackpool - Hence the reason he's getting binned.. He's paid per game on top of a small basic.General Mannerheim wrote:he was full of praise and admiration for the club and fans when he left, it was just the manager he didnt like. so i dont think he'd feel too badly about coming back. maybe get him on a performance bonus led type of deal? do they still have those??
If he played twice in a week, lets say, I believe he'd be the highest earning player in the clubs history

I'm just tremendously impressed that we now have access to such a fine squad that we can afford to cock-a-snook at a player of such quality.
Long may it last.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

He was decent. If pratters goals try up who else we gonna look to. Eagles is shoot on sight type which we need.plus hes versatile. far as scraping the barrel goes.... We could do a lot worse. He liked the club and fans not the manager (like 90% of us) at the time!!
