Oh well, if you're paying I'm definitely there next SaturdayLeverEnd wrote:Ha! I'm still turning up to parkrun, but for social reasons. Something will motivate me at some point and I'll start training then get injured and stop again. Get your arse down to parkrun for a breakfast if no other reason.Harry Genshaw wrote:You too eh? I'd love to be back racing but can't be arsed to put the work in to get race fit. I'll probably be forced back by my clothes no longer fittingLeverEnd wrote:Very true, guilt-tripping oneself can be a great motivational tool. Unfortunately I've become the athetics equivalent of a sociopath and can't even be arsed feeling guilty!

I think the new dog might be restricting my weekend runs for a few weeks yet

Re: The athletics/running thread
Think I may have to revise my target for Ironman this year.
I'm still not back running yet (well, not what you call proper running. Shuffling on a treadmill 3 times a week for 5 minutes a time isn't going to get me anywhere)
I've given myself until mid-March to be running properly again. If not I'll cancel Ironman and do it next year instead.
There. I've said it.

I think that's a sensible and practical decision. Can you defer or would it be 400 quid up the swannee?Gary the Enfield wrote:Think I may have to revise my target for Ironman this year.

At the moment I'd lose 50%
After 19th March it's 75%, hence the deadline of mid-March.

Yes. But this is about being able to walk in 10 years time too so I have to be sensible. If I do it next year I'll still be within the target date I set myself (under 50)
Anyway, still 2 months to go.

Re: The athletics/running thread
With your fitness background of the last few years it's possible to make huge gains in 2 months even after a spell out and without going daft think. Good luck with it, and if not, you've got longer to get really fit for it. Would be worse if you got to within weeks and broke down, so worth taking your time.Gary the Enfield wrote:thebish wrote:sensible, probably... but a crushing blow to your plans/hopes/dreams for this year... Re: The athletics/running thread
This week I'm feeling most smug for having ran 5K on three consecutive nights. Legs are a bit so now though, so will have an evening of rest before tomorrow's PR. Hurrah.

Indeed. Me and Our Kid have said we'll do the Bolton 10K (26th April), which reminds me, I'd better get our entries in.thebish wrote:blimey! you are SO past c25k!! any plans to up it and follow a 10k programme?Bruce Rioja wrote:This week I'm feeling most smug for having ran 5K on three consecutive nights. I'm the running equivalent of your Dorien Gray portrait.

Seriously though, well done!
Re: The athletics/running thread
I'm thinking of having a crack at some other local parkruns such as Worsley Woods, Heston Park and the South Manchester one my mate does most weeks. There's also Cuerden Valley, but that's supposed to be harder than Bolton.

It's amazing how good you can feel about yourself doing 2 miles in 20 minutes. I will, as you say, not get carried away though.

Easy. Cruella's not quite on the list yet.

The speed that some of the gazelles run up her defies belief!
