we are very fortunate in having 2 good keepers at the moment.

IMO the longer term GK future of the club, should lie with Boggers. However his contract situation creates a bit of a problem. Not convinced anyone will 'know' but does anyone have an idea of what the reasons are for him not signing - does he really want to stay but waiting for the club to improve its offer or is he set on leaving and just waiting to see to what offers emerge ?

Teams in higher divisions in need of keepers, check and water runs downhill as well. they'll only want him if they think he's better than what they have. why wouldn't they go for lonnergan ?
Not first choice at current club, check I'll give you that one, but to me simply adds to the fog of what the relative positions of the club and player are. Is it simply loyalty/ reward for lonners performances, albeit that risks upsetting /losing bogdan; do the club know bogdan is going and so see no point in putting him back in and thankfully lonners is currently performing v well or various other scenarios

thanks for the condescencion, but unless you know various other factors - has boggers actually been offered anything by us and when; does he want to go/ stay; does he have definite suitors lined up etc; I'd say it still is pretty hard to work out !!!
I seem to remember we always went through the contract hardball with jussi, even though you sensed he didn't really want to go, as his family was settled in the area etc

I have no doubt Lennon recognises Bogdan as the better keeper.

As he will also know there's not a cats chance in hell of keeping him, coupled to the fact that Lonergan's form is good and he may well accept a new offer, Lennon is probably choosing the prudent option.

Lonergan has been in great form and deserves to start.

Bogdan has great obvious attributes to make a top level keeper. His mistakes earlier on had people, including me in doubt. However what I have seen him now develop in the 2 cup appearances is a good level of concentration and an aura of authority and control, that a defensive unit love.

Ever since he came back in after Lonergan hit poor form after the 7-1 he hasn't put a foot wrong and is very unlucky to be out of the team.
It's a shame that finances will have to dictate Lennon's decision making but unavoidable I suppose.

In that time Andy Lonergan has made quite a few, not just saves, but tremendous match winners that have gained us points and kept us in there. Now, suddenly, on the strength of one game back (a hell of one granted), Bogdan is the shining star, declared the better keeper and preferred to Lonnergan...just like that, or did I get that wrong somewhere?

No, it was Doc and Enoch that were puzzling me. Personally, of what I've seen of course, I'd say , as I already have, that it's a toss up, but I reckon Lonnergan deserves to keep his place on current form.

Excepting that the manager may be preferring Lonergan in an effort to secure his signature on a new contract, knowing there is no chance of re-signing Bogdan.

If anyone believes Lonergan is a better goalkeeper than Bogdan, fair play to them. It isn't the case though.

Actually I tend to agree (sorry, Tango). However, I also thought we should keep Ali al Habsi over Jussi.

I think they're quite similar although I'd give a slight edge to Bogdan in terms of ability. If I could keep one, it'd be Bogdan without much thought just because he's 4 years younger but if we could get a decent fee for him, I wouldn't be too unhappy. Both Bogdan and Lonergan are too good to be sat on a bench in the Championship though. They're two of the best keepers in the league, without doubt.

Sorry you read that as condescending, was just trying to outline reasons why i think we wont be seeing bogdan here next year. Quite simply over the last three years he's earned a better gig!

You keep saying this. I'm yet to see Lonegran concede at the back post having stood and watched the ball come through the six yard box. When Bogdan stops that from happening repeatedly you might be on the fringe of having a point worth discussing.
