What are you playing tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

You jammy b'stard!

Still, tickets for Mew go on sale tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening I'm having my ears caressed by Mark Lanegan. Not bad!
Cousin said he was great at Newcastle the other night, had a chat as well and went home with a big stiffy presumably. I keep meaning to listen to recent stuff, not bought snything since Screaming Trees.

Me neither, I'm not a massive Screaming Trees fan or anything (I think they're great, but not to die for), but his voice is an absolute dream. He toured with queens of the stone age in 2003 as their main singer (along with the ginger nut) and it was one of the best gigs I've seen. Heard his album Bubblegum from a few years back but this is the first time i'll be seeing the Mark Lanegan Band.

Edit: Just checked - Bubblegum came out in 2004. hahaha! "A few years ago".

The Railway is a great small venue for a gig, they punch above their weight in terms of quality of band as well as having brilliant sound. I should get up there more.

I've heard just about every version ever made of "Some Enchanted Evening", from tenors to Frank Sinatra. Love the song. Now Bob Dylan's had a go at in on his new album Shadows in the Night. That, I want to hear....

It'll sound like somebody being choked whilst attempting to sing an off-key version of it. ;)

Indeed, only I think he was banging one out simultaneously, no? :)

You are indeed correct and to further add to this, he was in a hotel room wardrobe whilst doing it :conf:

That's cheating. You described it so well you must have heard it. A kind internet colleague sent me a copy. Frankly........ it was pretty bad. :(

Honestly, I haven't. :D

Other than for Subterranean Homesick Blues the appeal of Bob Dylan absolutely befuddles me. :conf:

Have to say there, Kinty, that over the past 30 odd years I've heard that unremarkable band a 1,000 times and more. :?

I fairness, I didn't have high hopes, when I clicked play...If ever there was a reason to head back to the bar, before the main event turned up...

Bobo told me a version of "Some Enchanted Evening" by Art Garfunkel wasn't so hot. Looked it up and he was right. Not quite as bad as Bob Dylan's effort, but pretty average. Tried everywhere on youtube to find Bryn Terfel's great version but it looks like it's been moved off for some reason. At least Alfie Boe knows how it should be done. Cracking.

Might try a bit of Cat Stevens after the rugby.

fair play. definitely nothing earth-shattering but I'm interested enough to give them a shot live.

either way it'll mean visiting another place in New York I've not been to. Did I mention I live there now? :)

Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay", Knocking on Heaven's Door, Cat Stevens Morning has Broken, and, of course, this:
