when has he been moaning about having too few defenders?

I may be dim to such verbal wizardy and nuance but the bit I don't get is the reference to he clearly thinks we have plenty - I thought mcarthy was a centre half, so presumably lenny doesn't :conf:

well that well known source of all knowledge wiki has a quote from him saying he's more suited as a gerrard role - if thats the case presumably he's being seen in the clough/ pratley role.

Owls talk seems a mixed bag - seems to be an acknowledgement of talent, but inconsistent and not up for the fight - presumably lenny thinks he can motivate him.

to me the issue remains that we are limited in the number of loans we can play - hopefully boggers and davies c aren't too far away

He sounds a bit like Darren Pratley before Lennon arrived (with exception of the arrogant bit).

I'm sure he will put the fizz back into our tiring midfield.

Further from my mate, sounds ok to me if he's only here 10 games...

He was fecking brilliant when he first came to us but he's been inconsistent at best since then. Don't know if it's attitude, or confidence. As you've read, most think it's attitude.

To be fair, Coke is a decent player. He was on loan at Bury last year and has looked decent when I've seen him play for Wednesday, but I don't know if we need him.

Wait. Wait a cotton-picking minute .... "he was on loan at Bury last year". Well, I'm impressed already.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

If he's a high-energy clogger who spoils the opposition midfield he'll do for me.

1 in 10 goal ratio
Maybe he's trotter and pratleys long lost half cousin twice removed . Certainly sounds like it but , who knows , may just need a chance in the right set up with the right manager . No harm done if he can do something like the job pratley did. We could certainly do with another goal threat now we've lost our 6 goal top scorer !

We can't recall Spearing, he's on a Standard Loan.

McCarthy is a centre-back, injury-troubled. If we sign him I'd be tempted to think Lennon is doing a sarcastic Freedman tribute act...

Sheffield united generally don't concede much and they had him back . If he is fit at present he may be as good a cover option as we can hope for . Anybody decent at our level or below wont be available and youngsters from a higher level generally go out for game time which unless they are better than what we have we can't offer them . I'd imagine the options are pretty limited .

Having had a glance at some comments about his time there not great . Didn't want to be away from his family in London so didn't train with them ( can that be right ?) and comments range from poor to ok at best . Might be the best we can find for cover though but wouldn't add much more than an extra body with some decent experience .
Aren't Chelsea supposed to lend us John Terry's 21 year old understudy because we gave them Cahill or something like that :)

From the BN, confirming ongoing attempt to borrow McCarthy: "It is understood Lennon has also run the rule over a young Premier League striker and could bring him to the club on loan if finances allow."

Hmm. With Clough (and Cravies) injured I can see the point of getting competition/back-up for Heskey, Eidur and Le Fondre - but considering we can only have five loanees in the matchday squad, and considering Amos, ALF and Bannan as "safe", that would leave us choosing two from TheYoungPLStriker, Coke, McCarthy, Janko, Slavchev and Rochinha. (You have to imagine Lennon has judged the last two in that list as unready.)

In fact, add in the earlier loanees, and that'd be a full XI of loanees this season:

..................ALF...Mason................
Bannan...Slavchev..Coke...Rochinha
McNaughton..Herd..McCarthy..Janko
......................Amos......................

With Garvan, of course, on the bench...
