Re: General Chit Chat
You'd think not, Bruce, but there seem to be many who chance their arm. I suppose that money is the motivator and stupidity the result. No, I don't agree with capital punishment either but if I was to dabble in illicit substances I most certainly wouldn't select Indonesia as the place to do it.Bruce Rioja wrote:Now then, unlike in that of our good friend Hoboh, capital punishment tends not to appear in my lexicon of jurisdiction. However, is there anyone that isn't aware that drug-smuggling in Indonesia is punishable by death?

How did you break it to them?

A few years ago a national supermarket chain opened a store in Bells Hill, Glasgow. The marketing department decided that some live music would be entirely appropriate for launch day:

Could you not suggest they wear bowler hats too in case there's any who might be colour blind?Bijou Bob wrote:I haven't Broken it to them. Thought it would be more fun not to. They may have abandoned the idea, I'm past caring!

I saw the new P&O cruise ship Britannia make her way up the Solent today. Jeez she's a big 'un. Very impressive indeed. Due to be named in Southampton by the Queen on March 10. She has a great blue & red colour scheme on her bow. The ship not the Queen........

I was on the Royal Princess last spring, which is almost exactly the same size as Britannia. It certainly seemed big enough until in St. Maarten we docked next to the Allure of the Sea, then the biggest ship ever built (not sure about now). Tonnage was 225,000 and she carried 6,000 passengers (unfortunately most of them went to the same beach we did). Still it is my experience the smaller ships are more enjoyable.Il Pirate wrote:I saw the new P&O cruise ship Britannia make her way up the Solent today. Jeez she's a big 'un. Very impressive indeed. Orange sashes and bowler hats? Better get some flutes and drums in there...Little Green Man wrote:Could you not suggest they wear bowler hats too in case there's any who might be colour blind?Bijou Bob wrote:I haven't Broken it to them. Blimey, 225,000 ton displacement! That's a lot of mass. It'd be interesting to see the mooring arrangements. Lots of cruise ships visit Sydney each year and the odd photo' indicates that they are indeed large. I hadn't though realised just how big they are or their passenger carrying capacity. Hopefully they have easily accessible life boats - and enough of them. The ship in which my family emigrated was a mere 24,000 tons (P&O's Stratheden). I have no idea as the displacement of the First Fleet ships but I can guarantee that they were significantly less than that and used wind power for propulsion.

Walking between the cruise ships was like walking in NYC shadowed between skyscrapers. The Allure (right) seemed to have fewer, though bigger, lifeboats than my ship but also many, many rafts.Dujon wrote:Blimey, 225,000 ton displacement! That's a lot of mass. Not sure what is meant by mooring arrangements - from my landlubber perspective just a whole bunch of ropes. However there is more accropode for LGM.

Another one bites the dust. Very soon, dust is all that'll be left in Bolton centre. Somebody in the town planning department has well and truly fxcked the town up.

I see a lot of the P&O fleet passing when I'm either at my beach hut, or sitting on my bed playing my guitar on a Saturday tea time! Sometimes they leave Southampton in convoy through the Solent 4 or 5 ships at a time. Always a great sight & one I never tire of seeing. The Cunard ships, the Queen Mary 2, Elizabeth & Victoria always look impressive as well. The big car transporter which was grounded the other week made a change to the view for a while!

Never been on an actual cruise. Went across to Catalina Island on this fella though. Most impressive creaming the waves and we went right past the old Queen Mary moored at Long Island. She's a big old ship.

One of the biggest in her day, but the Allure has three times the tonnage/displacement. Go figure.TANGODANCER wrote:Never been on an actual cruise.
