Mate: How does someone with a 2:1 in Geography from a decent uni end up being both (a) as thick as feck? And (b) working on reception? How does the post of receptionist even still exist?

... & what's a "decent University" ?
I always did wonder about degrees in geography. I mean, OK, you should get lost too often but otherwise ???

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

We have an admin assistant at the hospital with a first in classics from Oxford. Not much call for Latin these days.
And a 'good' uni is subjective, but perhaps otherwise known as a red brick or one of the Russell Group?

Probably because he can't make an evaluated judgement about when it might be appropriate to use a fcking defibrillator?Bruce Rioja wrote:Mate: How does someone with a 2:1 in Geography from a decent uni end up being both (a) as thick as feck? A University degree is bugger all indication about 'owt, apart from the fact you can pass a set of exams...(I have one, it hasn't made me any more or less intelligent than when I didn't have one). All it really does is narrow down some HR activity on screening. I blame Bobo for this.

I have other ways of screening, yer cheeky git.
If they can frost a glass is a fair start these days.
For more advanced challenges; walking and breathing simultaneously gets them into the final 25%.
Then eliminate those who show any propensity to text-speak .... followed by those who call me "mate" from the outset.
Then I get rid of ones with stupid names.
I'll give a fair hearing to the 3 or so that come through these challenges.

But surely, they don't even get to any of those stages without a 2:1?
I reckon with that criteria, I could get at least on the reserve list, mate.

... a 2:1 from a proper university. Anyone from a converted Aldi won't even get a reply ... on the reasonable assumptions that they probably didn't put their correct address and they most likely can't read anyway.

The safe box deposit robbery at Hatton Garden. They've watched Sexy Beast, they have.
Customers clamouring outside. Some hoping that their jewels haven't been stolen, some desperate that their secrets aren't about to be exposed!

Based on the real life Baker Street robbery in 1971. Portrayed in Jason Statham's The Bank Job 2008. Caused a big upset in more than one area.Bruce Rioja wrote:The safe box deposit robbery at Hatton Garden. They've watched Sexy Beast, they have.

(Rubs hands) Lavvly jabbly!
Whereabouts in North London? Presumably Muswell Hill or something with a view over the Metropolis?
Although I have seen my modest abode triple in price in 15 years so it could, be anywhere.
It's better than my pension will be that's for sure.

Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
The woman's psyche. Don't try to understand it, just roll with it. It's just easier.
Both of us ate at lunchtime, both are out later. So when the Mrs came home & neither was too hungry I said I fancied good old plain beans on toast. She agreed, nice, quick, easy simple. "Will that be OK ... or do you want anything else ?" - "no, nothing else, that'll be fine"
As I get out the tin of Heinz and put bread in the toaster come the words ... " .... a couple of slices of bacon would be nice though".
So, slow down the beans and flick the toaster while I get out some bacon, and heat up a frying pan, A few moments later I start heating the beans again and start the toast once more to hear .... "a fried egg would be nice too".
Now, none of this is an issue, just where did "no, nothing else, that'll be fine" go ??
