Yep. But players not out of contract can't simply "be released" as ..... well, how can I put this .... er .... They have a contract !!

So Spearing, Medo, etc. including, regrettably, Trotter can't be forced out. Certainly not by being released.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Can't be arsed.

That medo story sound legit, especially the getting booked bit.

At least with him and Spearing you could at least get them involved even if you'd like to spend the cash otherwise. Even as someone who didn't want to write young Liam off on the basis of a couple of performances out of position, he's still been pants, and injury prone.

13 out and maybe more during the summer. It's going to be interesting.

It is, but to be honest I half-expected more: eight of the 13 are kids, so it's "just" five seniors out, two of whom had effectively already left months ago. Mind, we've still got four more seniors who ain't signed yet...

From the out of contracts, who were the more you were expecting?

I half-expected the pensioners and possibly Bogdan to be smilingly waved away. I'm also slightly surprised that Quade Taylor got a contract after one game: true, he may have looked good in training, but obviously not good enough to help in a defence that spent the last four months being frequently calamitous.

I'm not one of those who regularly advocates a bonfire of the deadwood, like, and there's contracts and contracts: Quade won't be on much, and you'd hope the auld fellas will be on pension-rather-than-Prem pay. Considering we've all spent most of the season keenly awaiting the revolution, I don't think culling eight kids, two already-gones, our third-choice goalkeeper, a striker who can't play for three games without falling over and a defender who seems to think he's worth twice the money we do is quite the purge; but as you say, more will happen during the summer, and it is indeed interesting.

By the by, the BN is reporting that the releases bring the wage bill down by "more than £100,000 a week" (with 2012/13's Championship-topping £34.7m wage bill now reduced by around 35%). Assuming the eight shavers aren't on much (by comparison), that means the five seniors averaged nigh on £20kpw...

Sad to see Mills, Lonergan and C.Davies go but its understandable.

Mills looked like a player who happily signed on good terms but couldn't justify his high wage in our team and wouldn't like a wage drop.
C.Davies with his questionable injury record is a shame to see go, always looked like a player who could create a change from nothing.
Lonergan is a big shock. Didn't seem to do badly in the side, probably wants to be number one goalie. I think he probably justified that during his performances but then again so did Bogdan and Amos. Unfortunate timing perhaps.

Be interesting to see the ins and outs for next season. Certainly can't see the likes of Medo and Spearing being overly desired at the club.

Looks like he wants to keep Bogdan, so time will tell if Bogdan wants to stay. As for Heskey and Eidur both have made a good contribution and been injury free, I think they have played more than he wanted them to but it got quite desperate in February.

Quade's a kid and he will have only been retained if their is some sign of promise. Got to trust the club on this one, if he fails to progress then he will go but that and the alternative is obvious.

As far as I'm concerned the axe was promised and the axe has fallen. I think its being sharpened again...

Totally agree. The retained list that the club announced is surely just those that are definite out of the club. Never a true reflection on who will actually be here come the August kick off. I'm pretty sure the lets get Spearing out of the club won't have gone down well for retaining him next season. Similarly Medo.

I know Cravies was injured most of the season, but can't the same be said of Bogdan? I'll be surprised if he plays more than half of next season...

Cravies kept coming back and getting injured again, which is a worrying sign. Bogdan's more of a "one big injury, out for three months" case.

With the possible exception of a couple of the young 'uns (Clayton/Clough - possibly Vela) trying to break through, there isn't a one of our current squad who aren't completely average League 1/Championship players or perma-crocks. If Lennon wants to ship them all out, I'm good with that. Not one player do I think "I hope they're in the starting XI this week".

It's a marginal Fred's slightly better than Joe conversation in most positions.

You know, if I'd he was going to be binning off half the team, I'd rather he forked out a wee bit to keep Lee Chung Yong. :(

He only had three appearances for Palace and no goals - maybe he'll be back...

We need to build a team with 50 grand a week for wages

You reckon we should give a 1/3 or more of it to Lee?

Lonners explains how getting KO'd at Forest was probably the beginning of the end for him at Bolton...
