Re: Gary Madine
John Byrom meeting notorious hard man Tommy Smith on the cat park outside Burnden after the match .... and, reportedly, beating lumps of him.
Now THAT was hard.
Now THAT was hard.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Gary Madine
I love this story but urban myth surely? Apart from possibly Peter Thompsons testimonial I can't remember their paths ever crossing at Burnden. Not at all. Both FA and League Cups.
If it's myth it's very widely reported.

An interview with Madine from BBC Radio Sheffield. Comes across OK (apart from being a Geordie and in love with Gary Megson). Wants to work hard and prove people wrong.
Lets hope he does well.

About Gary Megson?
His cards are already marked then!
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Sounds like the nutter we need on the pitch.
Too soft a team are Bolton Wanderers.

At this rate, what we need is today's Beckford back!

I feel reborn !!!! No more confussion
Re: Gary Madine
Sounds like an absolute tool and his goal record isn't that great either... I don't see how either would change by him coming to us.
And for those who say we need some tougher players in the side, that may be true, but it has to come with quality. He has not proven himself at this level, and in fact has had only one season in double figures which was in League 1.

Re: Gary Madine
Mc Ginlay wasn't prolific before we picked him up, SKD'S career was in near terminal decline and Rickets hadn't been ripping up trees either, so the lad is worth a punt.
If you need any further convincing, laydees n gennermen, I give you more recent proof that a complete waster can come good in the form of possibly the worst striker I have ever seen wearing white ( And I remember Ian Marshall ) a man whose first touch had all the deftness and subtlety of a flying sledge hammer, Benik Ofobe. Last seen smashing them in at Wolves.

Agreed
There aren't any guarantees! Look at Falcao, Balotelli, Ozill, Di Maria, even or very own Elmander, Sordell! Money makes it easier but doesn't guarantee shit.
Can't remember the lad that banged then in for Palace promotion season but it think he were a free transfer from league one! There's gems out there!

The very same Glen Murray who's wife's reaction to DF's bid for him was, "Bolton??! Where did you hear that? Hahaha hahaha no chance".

Re: Gary Madine
By that logic literally any striker is worth a punt.

No, by that logic, an experienced coach can work with a player he has identified as having what his team needs. That striker may or may not repay that faith (See Ballotelli, Mario or Jardel, Mario).Prufrock wrote:By that logic literally any striker is worth a punt.
Or, perhaps more accurately, the right coach, working with the right player, in the right formation, with the right service, can achieve small miracles ( See Alf, Clough, Jutkiewisjz).
