So when are we going to be reading about your athletics and swimming exploits again?Gooner Girl wrote:Nice one GtE. That's very good going.Gary the Enfield wrote:Second Aquathlon of the year last night.

Managed to get under 40 minutes and pretty sure I got a P.B.
Best thing is I was 3 minutes faster than last month.
Ran 4k last night. First time out for 10 days. Had a reaction in both calfs afterwards, but they seem ok after some stretches. Looking forward to PR and brekkers at the weekend!

Do you good to get back out there. I'm sure you'll feel better for it. Just need to take it easy and make sure that you don't over do things. At your age!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Back feels ok, thanks. Then again, I've been a reet lazy bugger whilst off work last week and not really tested it. A whole week of eating and drinking. It was bloody great tbf. I want to lose a few pounds now, so that i'm lugging less weight around. Just aiming to get around on Saturday tbh, before a 'light' breakfast!!!Bruce Rioja wrote:Nice one, mate. Horrible, horrible measly 3k run this evening. Legs felt horrible from start to finish. The only plus point is that they feel ok now and I've had no reaction. Maybe the strength has been zapped from me after 4 days of not eating as much shite as usual?

Well done in getting out BP. Good days and bad days. Getting out is the most important thing.
I did Hendersons End fell race tonight. The first fell race I've done this year. By eck it were tough. Top barn up to the pike, down to the dog kennels, up to two lads across to the trig point behind the mast and then back with a final climb of the pike thrown in. I started off ok but my lack of fitness told in the last couple of miles and I finished well down the field. No injuries thankfully but I was too shattered to manage a final cool down or stretch

Didn't realise that was on Harry, would've had a walk up.
I did a slow 5 miler with my sis yesterday but really felt it in the legs having done no running on the toad for so long. Need to build up boringly slowly I'm afraid.
Away this weekend so no parkrun. Should be fitter for the following week.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Well done everyone. Sounds like some effort this week.
After my disappointing road race in Stevenage, last night saw the latest Hertfordshire Mid-week Road Race League's 10k run in St. Albans.
This is a pretty flat route along the stretch of an old railway line. There is a slight incline which gives you an easy out but a tough(ish) last 4k
Expecting (hoping) to be sub 50mins but having two races under my belt already this week I was very happy to come in at 48.13 (by my watch)
Rest now in preparation for the big one at the weekend. St Neots Tri (Standard Distance)
That means that (including last Saturday's Park Run) by Sunday I will have:
Run 30.5k
Swam 2k
Cycled 40k
Good job there's no hills down here.

Re: The athletics/running thread
28.27 which is 1.12 outside my PB.
I just wanted to get around tbf after a few niggling problems. Couldn't help being disappointed, as its the first time that I've run the whole course without stopping to walk up at least one of the hills. That said, this weeks runs were crap and I guess I just didn't have the miles in my legs. Onwards and upwards!

Re: The athletics/running thread
See, this is where I don't know if I'm getting it right or wrong. I have it in my head to never stop running. However, I end up overtaking people walking up Cruella only to have them then overtake me on the flat at the top.Burnden Paddock wrote:its the first time that I've run the whole course without stopping to walk up at least one of the hills.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I'm exactly the same. But I figured that the only way to beat my PB was to run the whole distance. However, after doing that yesterday, I was still over a minute slower, having walked for at least 30 seconds when I set my PB. That could be down to a combination of having done only 2 runs totalling 7k in the last 2 weeks, the heat, and/or just plain getting it wrong.Bruce Rioja wrote:See, this is where I don't know if I'm getting it right or wrong. Re: The athletics/running thread
I'm with Bruce. If you can run up the hill then do so. Shorter strides and swing your arms more. To get over the problem Bruce referred to of folk overtaking you back on the flat, I'd recommend forcing yourself to keep working hard at least 10m after the hill. I think subconsciously we slow down at the top of the hill to take in more air and I've found if I put off that recovery a bit, the folk I overtook going up the hill don't tend to catch you up.
How was breakfast?
