Not too interested in individuals, but whether N.L can forge them into a team to get us marching forward......please.

Very true, but we need individuals to form the team! I have faith that NL can carry us forwards.

Just seen that Darren Bent has left Villa. 99.9% certain that he'll be well out of our budget but he could do a job for us. Seemed to do alright at Brighton and then Derby this season. Averaged a goal every other game, or thereabouts, if memory serves.
You need sectioning, if you have even the tiniest thought we could afford him

Derby just signed him on a 2 year deal. Same club couldn't compete with us for Baptiste's wages not long ago, and they don't have parachute payments. So he's either accepted a much lower wage or they've got some new cash from somewhere. Would be nice if he just wants to play and isn't bothered about the cash after what he's earned.
I think we can still possibly get players of that calibre but only if they are still contracted to a richer club and they subsidise a season loan. Then again, Derby were said to be unwilling to pay more than £10k. Who knows? I just want football to start again soon.

That's this thread, that is.

From the BN:
Wanderers have watched Irish pair Richie Towell and Daryl Horgan, who play for League of Ireland outfit Dundalk.

Neil Lennon has kept tabs on Towell, a goal-scoring midfielder, since his days at Celtic.

Horgan is another highly-rated winger who has been watched and who falls into the right age bracket, although reports in the Irish press claim a fee of £500,000 would have to be paid for their services, which seems unlikely given the club’s tight finances at present.

Reports in South Wales claim last season’s top scorer at the Macron, Adam Le Fondre, could be on his way out of Cardiff City, with newly-promoted MK Dons looking to sign him.

Wanderers retain an interest in the 28-year-old but would be unable to buy him outright this summer, favouring a loan deal.

I'll be gutted if Le Fondre goes elsewhere. We need him. He'd bag 20+ goals for us next year. But that's football I guess.

Agree that it would be good to have ALF back, though whatever formation we play we should be seeking to play Clough and Clayton regularly. If and I emphasise if, Mavies is fit, then playing the 4 of them would likely mean no beast up front. I know we've gotten rid of Mills, but we do still have the rest of the cloggers that hoof it at every opportunity.

Clough will be a start his season. But can you imagine him and Le Fondre playing up top week in, week out? Mouthwatering.

I'd be especially pissed off if MK fecking Dons can afford him and we can't!

22 pages and not a single signing. Is this a record??!

Just a few thoughts.

Blackpool and Burnley both went up with largely unknown, wage capped squads. Bournemouth have done the same. 2 seasons ago, Hull came to the Reebok and we were nervous. 20 minutes later we were 3 nil up against one of the worst teams Ive ever seen at our place. 4 matches later or so, they were promoted.

Now, imagine if you will, the impact Alf would have had on a full season. I don't think it's out of sorts to suggest he would have been pushing 20 goals. Add in a full season for Clough and a full season for Clayton, and between them, they would probably have added another 25. Take away our calamitous defending in the last 5 minutes of games by changing our centre backs and full backs for people who know what they're doing and we have a winning season.

Next season could go either way, but the one thing we don't need is marquee signings like Bent or Palacios. I'd take Alf back in a heartbeat, but aside from that, I trust Lennon to bring in the right sort of people to grind out a good season.
Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.

Agree with a lot of that, particularly the emphasis on a small squad of high quality.

Do think we need a proper CM too though. Danns is OK but not good enough to be first choice. I like Vela but he's still young and learning. Mavies is great but won't play 20 games. Trotter isn't good enough. Looks like Pratters is going. Big engine is a must. Whilst I footballer as well would be nice, Josh or Mavies can do the passing to our own players bit.
