I doubt that LE will be picking you up at 8.45am in your pissed up state to take you there!Bruce Rioja wrote:Aw thanks, HarryHarry Genshaw wrote:No BruceBP & LE you two going to make it?

. I'll be there in spirit. However, in person, I've just clocked that the Aberystwyth Parkrun is a one hour drive away from matey's place in Cardigan. Hmmmmmmmm.

Eee could you have imagined 12 months ago, going for a run at midnightBruce Rioja wrote:Aw thanks, HarryHarry Genshaw wrote:No BruceBP & LE you two going to make it?

Did a solo hill session tonight rather than risk doing the 2 lads fell race. Turned out to be a good decision. A fire on the moors meant it was cancelled at the last minute

Girlie friend who I'm visiting has asked "Is porridge and honey OK for breakfast?" My "Is there a Sainsbury's nearby?" was met with a little consternation! I'm guessing that Cardigan has never heard of a Sainsbury's Cafe.Harry Genshaw wrote: Eee could you have imagined 12 months ago, going for a run at midnight![]()
and then checking where the nearest run is when you're on a wild weekend? That's dedication that is!

Good effort. I sometimes have 'a shuffle' to help me sleep.Bruce Rioja wrote:Having another of those 'can't sleep' nights. feck know's why. So just done a midnight 5K.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Just seen the weather forecast from mid-afternoon today, right through to tomorrow lunch. Rain, rain and more fecking rain! The last time that I did parkrun after a prolonged period of rain, the course was ridiculously bad in places. Seriously considering whether I can be arsed now. Besides, its Miss BP's birthday this weekend, so there are other distractions which may affect my running ability!!

These "other distractions" being Miss BP's mates?

Ha! The 'other distractions' being Miss BP's request for a birthday curry (good girl!) and the unwritten rule of curry requiring alcohol! I wouldn't wish that combination on any of my fellow parkrun participants.Bruce Rioja wrote:These "other distractions" being Miss BP's mates?

Harsh. I changed my mind last night and decided to just get up and do it. When I woke this morning I just couldn't be arsed, so turned over and went back to sleep. There's always next week.LeverEnd wrote:You won't fecking melt you soft c*nt! I'm pissed as a fart but will be there.

Lazy git. I felt like death on the first lap but then woke up but felt sick after drinking a pint of milk then eating 2 orange lollies and then some coke. Feel better now but only managed 1 plate of breakfast.

True. I'm thinking of doing parkrun next Saturday and the race in Horwich on Sunday. I may even try to drag Mrs and Miss BP along too. Keep your fecking hands to yourself!LeverEnd wrote:Lazy git. He'd obviously followed the Rioja training regime of getting 5hit faced the night before and looked like death when he got out of the car. A lap and a half later and he sails past me like I'm travelling backwardsBurnden Paddock wrote:True. I'm thinking of doing parkrun next Saturday and the race in Horwich on Sunday. 22.33 today. It felt slower than last time but surprisingly only 3 seconds away. With a little more effort I could have managed a pb for this year

Re: The athletics/running thread
Following my 'four races in 8 days' I have done literally NOTHING this last week. Struck with a bad cold after the triathlon I've had no energy. Saturday got me out in the park for a 5 mile jog just to brush the cobwebs off.
I'm calling it a rest week as this week sees me back to racing Thursday in Royston (10k road race) and then Saturday is Dambuster, an Olympic Distance triathlon which I just managed to sneak in under the three hour mark last year. Hoping to do better on the swim and the bike but the run will be tough.
I assume it's the Horwich 'Festival of Speed' this weekend?

You won't melt, you soft cnut!Bruce Rioja wrote:Wimped out of my international debut at the Aberystwyth Parkrun. 'Twas absolutely pissing it down.

It is the Horwich festival of racing this weekend GtE. I've pre-booked my place in the 5k run and am expecting to be joined by Mr Genshaw and a spectating LE. I'm stepping up my training for Colwyn Bay with PR and Horwich, both in the same weekend! Bring on the rain and post run beers!

Re: The athletics/running thread
I'm just about to order a barrel of Flat Cap from Bank Top for the living room. It can be my housemate's 40th present. They lend you a hand pump and a Black n Decker workmate to set it up on.
Thought about running but that would mean tearing up my rehab programme and risking injury so I'll be sensible and stick to the booze.
Ran yesterday evening, first time I've done consecutive days for months and my calf was a bit tight so swam today, 32 lengths. Not GtE magnitude but decent for me and my aimless splashing about.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Didn't have much time after work this evening, so decided to do a 'flat out' (for me) 2k. Did it in 9.35 but fecking hell, I was coughing like i'd just done 40 woodbines afterwards.
Might have gone a bit faster if I hadn't managed to trap my ankle in the car door earlier.
That smarted a bit!
