Watched Saving Mr Banks last night. Great film, though maybe a tad on the long side. Emma Thompson fantastic.
Nero fiddles while Gordon Burns.

Must-watch film. I ended up one part angry to two parts sad.Harry Genshaw wrote:Well?Prufrock wrote:Settling in for Blackfish tonight.
I remember it making me really angry at the time
Already knew a lot of the bad stuff that goes on with killer whales (there are reports from other parks of them trying to commit suicide by bashing their heads on the sides of the pool) but didn't realise the trainers didn't know what was going on. The footage of the bald guy who kept getting dragged down and back up was insane.
Awful places, and I become more and more convinced that the way we treat animals will be scandalous to future generations. Latest in a long line of horror stories coming out is the aligators skinned alive for Hermes handbags.

Was going to watch a film. Three words decided me not to: Starring Steven Segal. Pass.

I'm trying to envisage Mr Kilminster warbling Paranoid Android. I think he'd need some sort of surgery.

Make that Motorhead. Only an Ace of Spades out.

That took me back some. First gig I went to was Motorhead. Everything else seemed somehow quiet.TANGODANCER wrote:Make that Motorhead. Only an Ace of Spades out.

Watched 'Mad Max: Fury Road' at the cinema last night.
Fantastic action sequences which almost threatened to break out into a film at one point. In hindsight i think it would've worked better had I watched it in IMAX rather than the pokey screen we went to, but the visuals were really good. Aside from that was mainly laughing at Tom Hardy's accent. Don't think it would be even remotely as effective on a small screen.

The GM recommended 'Whiplash' is on its way. Simmer down, you boys at the back - it's about a drummer.

Force Majeure. been looking forward to this for ages since Robbie Collins reviewed it on the wittertainment podcast and loved it. its billed as a comedy and he said there were laughs in it but i didnt find any, the humour is very very dark. what i did find was superbly tense, thought provoking, interesting drama that leaves you asking a few questions about your own psyche... some incredible photography and great acting. brilliant film. ive never been to a ski resort so bleak tho...

I like Robbie Collins, though he did give minions 2 stars so he doesn't always get it right.General Mannerheim wrote:Force Majeure. been looking forward to this for ages since Robbie Collins reviewed it on the wittertainment podcast and loved it. its billed as a comedy and he said there were laughs in it but i didnt find any, the humour is very very dark. what i did find was superbly tense, thought provoking, interesting drama that leaves you asking a few questions about your own psyche... some incredible photography and great acting. brilliant film. ive never been to a ski resort so bleak tho...

Really enjoyed this. I do love a story of an aspiring musician anyway, but when you throw in a cultured Don Logan style character as well, then yes, count me in. Definitely worth a watch.Bruce Rioja wrote:The GM recommended 'Whiplash' is on its way. Simmer down, you boys at the back - it's about a drummer.

Have you seen 'Beware of Mr Baker' Bruce? I haven't, but tis another movie about a drummer that's got great reviews. A doc, not a drama, though.Bruce Rioja wrote:Really enjoyed this. I haven't, Kinty, but I can stick it on the list. I take it that 'Mr Baker' is a reference to Ginger Baker, no?KeyserSoze wrote:Have you seen 'Beware of Mr Baker' Bruce? The very same. The name comes from the sign he has on the entrance to his house in South Africa. Judging from the trailer he isn't exactly a particular nice guy...Bruce Rioja wrote:I haven't, Kinty, but I can stick it on the list.
