Re: This weeks RIP's........
I was saddened this morning to find that Ron Clarke, the Australian middle-distance runner, passed away yesterday. It's probable that most of you haven't heard of him but he was a chap who collected world records as does a child marbles. He was no fool off the track either having been Mayor of the Gold Coast for a number of years.
Cheers, Ron, I hope they have a decent track and an accurate timing system where you are now.

I also remember him and his world records. IIRC somewhat inexplicably he always failed at the Olympics including a collapse in Mexico City reminiscent of the earlier world record holder Jim Peters at Vancouver. RIP.

I had something of a crush on Mrs. Peel, aka Diana Rigg. She and her Avenger predecessor, Honor Blackman, both became Bond girls. When I saw Rigg recently in Game of Thrones I didn't recognize her - only the voice gave her away. The passage of time is cruel. RIP John Steed.clapton is god wrote:Aw, that's a shame. We have Diana's daughter, Rachael Sterling, to fall back on. She's the spit of her at the age you'll recall Diana. Similar voice too.Montreal Wanderer wrote:I had something of a crush on Mrs. Peel, aka Diana Rigg. She and her Avenger predecessor, Honor Blackman, both became Bond girls. Chris Squire. RIP Big man. Had the pleasure of seeing him several times, a great bassist and a founder member of Yes. ....Very sad.

Linda, a good Canadian, is still going strong but doesn't look quite the same as Tara King.Il Pirate wrote:RIP Steed. But Linda Thorson was the babe................................................. But having met JL in the flesh (as it were); a couple of times, I could vote for Purdy

For 20 years he had his BBC Saturday evening show ... 20 years. 1967-86. He was 88 at present, so it started when he was 40. He always seemed like a pipe & slippers grandad. Nice, gentle, harmless entertainment.clapton is god wrote:Val Doonican will be rocking in Gods own armchair tonight. 88years old.

I fear to say who I thought died yesterday.

Is it just me, or does it seem like we are losing a lot of famous names this year?

It's just an age thing mate. Older you get, the more people you know, or have heard of seem to die off. That's life I suppose...........

a). Know who most of them are
b). Remember much of their work
c). In some cases remember them being feted as 'up & coming newcomers'
d). Realise you weren't aware half of them had died
Now THAT's age creeping on.
