Most people's hesitations, myself included, is his terrible goal return since moving south of the border. I think he scored 10 goals for Swansea across 3 seasons, and his record hasn't been much better (sometimes worse) since.

I'm willing to get behind him if he signs as he'll be part of the team and NL sees something in him, but he's 32 and hasn't been prolific at all in England. If he signs I think it'll be because he's all we can afford rather than him being someone who will truly add to the team.

Overall, his goalscoring record is not half bad.

You've also gotta consider that he doesn't always play as a striker, but behind the striker in a playmaker role.

Possibly not. As someone mentioned, he could be used interchangeably with Clough if Clough continues to have fitness issues. But I would argue that Dobbie is definitely not a bad cheapo to have waiting in the wings.

I watched Dobbie a few times last season while he was on loan at Fleetwood!! I wasn't impressed in the slightest with him,and he struggled to make the 1st team..If that is all we can hope for,then it's gonna be a long tough road ahead!! My favourite player at Fleetwood over the last 3 years (David Ball) has just been released,I,m amazed that he hasn't attracted Championship interest in the last couple of years,.

I expected him to be a headless chicken but was pleadanrly surprised by the quality of his touch and link up play. He wasn't playing as an out and out striker either and I don't think he would. Depends what the alternatives are (obviously he's no ALF) but if we are as fecked as it seems, then we could do a lot worse.

Respectfully, I think we differ on his record! Nothing wrong with that, mind. Sure if you account for starts his record is OK but that's just fudging statistics by completely ignoring sub appearances. By doing that Henrik Pedersen, and other less succesful goalscorers we've had, get good records (not to take away from him, I did like him!).

My point is that as good as he's reputed to have been in the friendlies, and those aren't a reliable metric really (although all we have to go on at this point), he's not really what we need. Sure he'll be a decent squad player and provide cover, which is useful, but we need someone who is more of a poacher or goalscorer. It's encouraging that he can play in a more forward role, sitting behind the strikers to set up attacking moves and getting assists, as we need a creative outlet with Mavies being injured for 70% of most seasons and Gudjohnsen going for one last payday in China.

I'm far from doomsaying and I'll definitely get behind him, I'm just questioning if he's the sort of player who'll really add to the team over the season. His statistical record doesn't impress me, that's where we differ, and he's struggled to make the first team at pretty much all clubs since Swansea. I'd also quite like to see how many assists he's gotten over the years (but I don't think any databases show that) to see how he contributes to the team, but going off accounts from other teams where he's been on loan I'm not exactly leaping for joy. I'm thoroughly in the "meh" camp.

It's not always easy to judge sub appearances, as you don't know how many mins he got, or what circumstances he arrived into a game at.

Yup, he can sit nicely behind the strikers and he's got a decent touch. He's not awful and we could do a lot worse for such a cheap signing. This really does seem to be the best we can get atm, and I wouldn't be too discouraged. Let's see how it goes if he signs.
