Sunday Brunch did a cauliflower, paneer and peas curry this morning. Caulis are 49p in Ali so would have been rude not to. It's bloody awesome, if I do say so myself.

Well yes but you earn like 6 million Quid a year!Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Lucky bugger. Had my ex boss and his Mrs round for dinner on Friday evening.
I absolutely nailed the following.

Starter:
Scallops (with roe) and pancetta on a bed of crispy kale (oven baked with cumin seeds and turmeric)
Main:
Crab, pea, lemon and Parmesan risotto.
Pud:
Eton mess.
Pourboire:
A fecking skinful of wine

May the bridges I burn light your way

If I were to earn 6 million quid a year I'd have been out of here by now! Anyway, you don't have to spend 2 grand a month just to rent a modest 2 bed house. They're even threatening to put petrol up, which is about the only cheap thing here. I'm looking forward to getting back to civilisation tbh, though the boss recently told me it's looking like we've a few more years longer than we'd been thinking

Anyway, back to food. Made a rare Sunday roast yesterday

Been on holiday in Portugal since Monday. Had golden (sea) bream on the first night and just had grilled sea bass. Both fantastic with potatoes and salad.
Love sea food and I can't think of many better places where you get get it. Early to mid 30's through the day. Does life get much better?

Three more weeks and I'll be feasting on Portuguese fish... starting with sardines...
Whereabouts are you malcd?
Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Not far (but far enough) from Albufeira. Not quite what I rermembered from 14 years ago when I stayed in the same area. Had ten days in Alvor last year which was more suited to my taste and age.William the White wrote:There is nowhere better!malcd1 wrote:Been on holiday in Portugal since Monday. I've had three hols in Olhos d'Agua - just far enough away from Albufeira. First time in 1980s when it was really small. Passed through it five years ago... shame what's happened to it...malcd1 wrote:Not far (but far enough) from Albufeira. Not quite what I rermembered from 14 years ago when I stayed in the same area. Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Not quite as warm, but we were in Braintree visiting family at the weekend. Had a cracking meal on Saturday at a small place by the name of Chop Bistro.
Starter of scallops and langoustine with samphire and capers. First time that i've eaten samphire, but it won't be the last.
Main of pork belly, with mustard mash, red cabbage with apple and cider gravy. Sorry, I refuse to refer to it as a jus!! Plus lots of lovely crackling.
Shared some sort of chocolate brownie dessert. Bit meh, but then i'm not a dessert person.
Only downside was being asked if we wanted a beer whilst they stuck our wine in the freezer to chill. WTF? I'm sure it was an oversight, but not a great first impression. Fortunately, the food more than made up for it. Excellent!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
I can suggest you try the Eastern Algarve next time Malc. If you prefer the Portugal you remember from 15 years ago. It still hasn't caught up. You really can't beat it for rustic charm.

There's naff all else in the house, and I can't be bothered going to the shops, so tonight it's spaghetti beef bourgignon.
