Getting there isn't so hard, getting out again not so easy.
Gene pool and all that.

What're you doing here on this thread ? You have work to be doing elsewhere Sonny Jim.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Out of interest, Derby are one of the clubs I feel will fall foul of FFP regs if they don't get promotedneedles wrote:Ay up lads, Derby fan here.
I'll be on my way up the M6 for this one and nipped on here to see what your lot are thinking about it.
It seems you're not overwhelmingly confident, and I must admit I think we've got a good chance of a win, but I wouldn't ever be surprised to get turned over away in the Champ. You never know on opening day either do you? Must admit I'm pleased you're missing your centre backs - always rated Wheater at this level and that lad from Madrid(?) can't be any mug can he?
A lot of you seem to be focussed on Tom Ince. He's been peripheral in pre-season, and I expect the strongest area for us will be midfield with Will Hughes and George Thorne looking in good nick. Andreas Weimann should play and looks pacy and sharp. I'd expect us to play a diamond, with Chris Martin and Weimann up front, Ince in behind. Darren Bent and Johnny Russell on the bench.
All the best for the season.
I know your income will be one of the best of the non parachute clubs, but seeing as only 2 teams can go up, is it not a high risk strategy
Surely you must be running a sizeable deficit?

No seriously, we start off on equal points Saturday but after that we won't see your lot for dust. I think derby will be promoted, but nothing's too predictable. Our rivalries are at the other end sadly. All the best, and #anyonebutdougie!

Vela for Danns in there I reckon.
And either that formation, or a diamond with Feeney up top with Madine and Clough in behind.

With that line up, I'm confident our movement up front could hurt anyone. Sadly, that back line, even with 2 holding midfielders, looks leaky.

We're told by the board that we'll be within FFP again, although with the loss limit going up they've relaxed the purse strings a lot this summer. I'd guess we'll lose around £10-£12m this season. They've been here over 5 years now and keep converting losses to equity every year so although they'll clearly want a return some day we have no headline "debt" to speak of. They're bloody good owners to be honest.CAPSLOCK wrote:Out of interest, Derby are one of the clubs I feel will fall foul of FFP regs if they don't get promotedneedles wrote:Ay up lads, Derby fan here.

We've added a new chairman this time too, although he's been involved in Derby on and off for years (Mel Morris, chap who did Candy Crush). I think he's upped the ambition and persuaded the rest of the board to push the boat out.

We all thought we'd be going up last year, and never made the play-offs. So unpredictable in the Champ you never know - there's always one team surprises the league, and you've got a good manager which is half the battle.

Needles - Can you give us a quick overview as to Phil Brown's tenure please, Fella? There are, even now, idiots within our ranks who, every time we have a managerial vacancy, actually recon that the orange gobshite still could actually provide the second coming of Allardyce.

In the interests of balance I'd say that Phil was in his first managerial post at Derby, the club had been in decline for 5 years and he had a board of directors some of whom subsequently did time for their activities at Derby, so it was a shitty situation for him.
Now, all that said, please, please don't ever want Phil Brown back at your club as manager, you'd be letting heart rule head.
The best illustration I can give is that at one stage we had Dean Holdsworth, not the late 90's version striker you'd know and love, but the 2005 37 year old version who'd been plucked from Havant and Waterlooville as a coach....playing centre half in the Championship. Not just once in a crisis - three or four games.
It was an effing omnishambles and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Except forest. And Leeds. And Man u obviously. But apart from that, no-one.
Nice bloke, and he's had his day in the sunshine since at Hull of course, but he's not at Southend because the Prem lost his number. If you want the second coming of Allardyce, well, call Allardyce.
Re: Ram Bam, Thank You Ma'am. Derby match thread
Some quality on the ball in midfield there with the young lad and Davies. Madine doesn't fill me with terror, no mug, but not scary.. How's Moxey getting on?Bijou Bob wrote:Who do we reckon for the starting 11 then?

Re: Ram Bam, Thank You Ma'am. Derby match thread
Madine should give your centre backs a very busy afternoon, he's a had a very good pre season. That system means that our two holding midfielders are going to get dragged out wide a lot to cover The full backs. Moxey is still an unknown quantity with little game time, but he hasn't looked great to be honest and wouldn't get a game if we had another centre back fit.

Always had a soft spot for Derby and strangely enough - Sheffield Wednesday (mainly because of Benito Carbone , Des Walker,Andy Hinchcliffe and Niclas Alexandersson!)
How highly do you rate Will Hughes, mate? Some of my favourite players of the 90s/00s played for your lot, mainly Stefano Eranio, Georgi Kinkladze, Igor Stimac, Dean Sturridge and Paolo Wanchope! Always thought Giles Barnes was gonna make it big but I suppose his shocking injury record put and end to that, I also quite liked the look of Miles Addison.

Jesus buddy, some names there! I could get quite misty eyed thinking about that lot. Giles Barnes should have been a top half Prem player and could have played for England. The injury was cruel and there was always a suspicion that the ego got in the way a bit. He's ripping it up the US now, although that doesn't mean loads. At Houston I think? Addison was a proper unit but again injuries seemed to slow him and halt his progress. Shame.plymouth wanderer wrote:Always had a soft spot for Derby and strangely enough - Sheffield Wednesday (mainly because of Benito Carbone , Des Walker,Andy Hinchcliffe and Niclas Alexandersson!)

Will Hughes is a lovely talent. Still only 20 with three seasons behind him at Championship level and he needs to go up with us or leave to play top flight next summer, I'd be choked to see him go for less than 8 figures. I watched us vs Villarreal at our place a week or so back. Now OK its a friendly, and Villarreal played half a side, but they're Europa League and he was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch. For 20 minutes second half he was playing a different sport to the rest of them. His control is good, he's hard to dispossess and he can beat a player, spot a pass and deliver the ball. Needs to add a goal to his game (7 in 121 games so far) and start to dominate games more regularly but at his age that's not unexpected. He's never going be a muscle man but he's tough enough. I've got a sneaky feeling this season might be a big one for him.
Like with Barnes and Addison, you never know with young un's but if he was playing for Charsepool Utd in 5 years and in the England side, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
