I notice from this list that you haven't done Blush Cider from Bude, or wine from Camel Valley. So not that done!

I meant I was done! Fab week of food, and the extremes of Britishness. One typical-ish day had a lunch of crab sandwiches and ice-cream washed down with G&Ts and Prosecco, and a tea of fish and chips on the harbour wall with several pints of Tribute. Was fit.

Both very good. Not heard of (nor tasted) Blush Cider before and it is very nice. It also makes a claim I wasn't aware of on the back label, namely that much industrial cider is made for concentrated juice. Haven't had chance to research whether this is a valid claim.

And Camel Valley is a bit of a ballache to drive to (though experience of searching for tiny wineries in godforsaken corners of France stood us in good stead) but its worth the trip. Smashing wine, all white. Apparently the sparkling made from pinot Noir (not cheap, Champagne prices) is a cracker....

My new fav restaurant.

Went to the shoulder of mutton today. Not been in ages. Seems to be under new management? They've had a refurb. It's hideous. They've boxed in all the original beams and colums with this horrendous mdf panelling. They've done the bar in it to, awful. like they've tried to modernise the place but just looks like a bad episode of changing rooms. The decor and furniture is otherwise very nice and the old cheese & onion pie is spectacular as ever but I was really put out by this shit wooden cladding everywhere. Someone's had a mare!

No it's on my list of envy along with Fifteen as places to save up for. Looks good but it's not cheap, Moro! Worked in Angel for two years and never got there, but it will happen.

On a similar note, work has moved to London Bridge and we're having a big meal at Tas end of next month!

I think I've said on here before, daughter bought us a £100 voucher for Fifteen about 6yrs back, and we thought it generous until we actually got there. The evening cost us £260! That was for two taster menus and one wine taster. Mind you, we got a souvenir apron in that price as well!

Wow, I didn't think it was THAT dear! I think the a la carte is a lot less. In fact I didn't think it was too dissimilar to Moro on food.

It was absolutely super! And well worth it as a one off. Been to many restaurants before and since and that is the one that sticks in the memory - for all the right reasons.

You could get the Moro experience in a more budget-friendly form with a trip to Morito, their tapas place.

We have just had Venison Pappardelle with a nicely aged and well decanted bottle of Madiran. Very nice if I do say so myself.

(Total cost to me about a tenner by the way. Just saying :D )

Never had Madiran. But always interested in experiment.

Just checked Wine Society - offering 3 between £5.92 (2013) and 10.95 (2008). And a fortified dessert wine at £13.95.

Any thoughts LK?

Domaine Pichard is probably one of the only Chateau in the appellation I know next to nothing about - I hear good reports though.

Chateau d'Aydie is the pioneer of micro-oxygenation - a process designed to accentuate the fruit and tame some of the ferocious tannins, so they're generally more approachable when young - though the name of the grape (Tannat) is a dead giveaway as to this being a relative concept. As a guide to the appellation as a whole, the vintages that are drinking well at the moment are '98-'00, though Aydie is usually ahead of that curve.

The Maydie is just a Vin doux naturel. Nice as a curiosity, but I tend to find the people actually making VDN for a living are doing it better for the same price.
