Shame about Kellet. Theres plenty in that squad I'd of binned before him. Unfortunately no other c*nt thinks signing Liam Trotter is a good idea. Fcuk you Freedman!! Writing on the wall when he couldnt get a squad place when only Feeney offers width. I think we might regret this one later but I get it if it frees enough for a loan in a week. We'll see.

It was clear than Lenin doesn't fancy him. If he had half trust in him he'd have got the call alongside, if not ahead of, Moxey and wouldn't have chased the new left back.
The lad hasn't even benched ... didn't even see time in the League Cup match. So he was going. I admit to thinking another loan may have worked but if Lenin is sure then so be it.

It's a strange one in that I thought Kellet had genuine promise but has gone permanently, and yet Threlkeld, who I think has little to no promise, is loaned out to a club Kellet was previously loaned to.bobo the clown wrote:More concerned it's Wiggin than anything else.Nicko58 wrote:Andy Kellet has gone to Wigan for an undisclosed fee.

It's never easy for anyone when they come down after as long a time as we had up, but we've made a right hash of it. It was only two years ago we gave Alex Baptiste a three-year deal on wages Derby's chief exec described as 'eye-watering' (same fella who today spent the thick end of £10m on Jacob Butterfield and Bradley Johnson).
Money to sign Baptiste, Hall, Medo, Spearing, Andrews, Tierney, Mills, Beckford and Moxey. New deals for Wheater, Ream, Ricketts and Knight. Loan fees and wages for literally dozens of pointless short-term signings. Contracts and severance packages for Coyle, Stewart, Davis, Freedman, Lawrence and Fleming. Millions and millions of pounds we couldn't afford down the drain. Of all the players we've signed since coming down, how many have actually been any good? Juke, ALF and Dawson were good players on loan and Danns has done pretty well, but it's a depressingly short list.
I know BWFCI gets some stick for being miserable, but it's hard not to be. Another season where the absolute best we can hope for is to get in another short-term fix who'll propel us to the heady heights of 14th in the Championship before being signed by somebody else.

Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
On paper our signings don't sound too bad. However the fact that we've had to constantly chop and change the team plus actively try and get rid of players to bring people in really hasn't done us any favours. It's a damn shame that we've looked like a club eager to get rid of staff as opposed to trying to work towards something bigger than the sum of its parts.Tombwfc wrote:It's never easy for anyone when they come down after as long a time as we had up, but we've made a right hash of it. Despite the lack of a striker which needs to be rectified in the loan window, I don't think we've had too bad a transfer window at all!
Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
True. We'll most likely not get another ALF, but someone half decent plus Clayton coming back will at least provide competition. Maybe even a goal or two?jmjhb wrote:Despite the lack of a striker which needs to be rectified in the loan window, I don't think we've had too bad a transfer window at all!
My Huddersfield mate summed up their day as follows, so it's not just us...
We sold 3 of our best assets! £9million in, £150,000 spent (and he's been sent out on loan!). 3 wins in 23. Happy days!!!

VERY disappointed to see Kellett go. There's gotta be something else to this, perhaps attitude or something else off the pitch? Either way, a huge shame, thought he could have been a to player here. Also shame he's moved down a league.

Good post Tom....and I agree, our so called 'Chairman' has a lot to answer for in recent years IMO for sanctioning all of these. I say 'so called' as I'm not sure if he's still at the club as I've not heard any direct quotes from him in months - strange that saying he was never out of the media in the premiership years !Tombwfc wrote:It's never easy for anyone when they come down after as long a time as we had up, but we've made a right hash of it. I don't think so, by all indications a nice hard-working lad. I think if you are that small you need a special talent like Zach's, and Lennon apparently considered that he didn't have it. It's a shame that a Bolton-born lad has failed to make the grade as well. Good luck to him.Vertigo wrote:VERY disappointed to see Kellett go. If I were a pessimist I'd also suggest he could be in a higher division than us next season anyway, but I'm not!

The Chairman simply negotiates deals for the players a manager wants. We missed out on loads because we wouldn't pay what the club or player wanted. Had Gartside not signed these players you would have pilloried him for lack of ambition or some other nonsense.Peter Thompson wrote:Good post Tom....and I agree, our so called 'Chairman' has a lot to answer for in recent years IMO for sanctioning all of these. Fact is it is very difficult once you are a club in the premiership rat race. At Bolton we relied on a good manager in Allardyce, actually not good, one of a kind. When he went Eddie spent money chasing survival and stability. It was clearly the wrong move but easy in hindsight and all. We aren't in this mess because we signed players. We are in it because we have consistently signed the wrong ones for the wrong amounts. That isn't Gartsides call but the managers he had working underneath him.
Ultimately we are a small club that hasn't been able to grow its fanbase and in fact lost fans over the course of its most successful period ever. Our turnover therefore has been very difficult to grow and we are reliant on someone acting as a benefactor to replace ED.

Apart from the bedsheet wankers, on Megson's appointment, I don't recall anyone saying his decisions were wrong at the time.

hoboh - show us your posts of the time that said the decision to appoint each of them would prove to be a mistake - and it doesn't count if you said every manager is crap
insane - good post wrt ED/PGs role, other than your point about the players signed is a bit like hobohs - can't remember lots of wailing when partic players were signed. As you say the PL is a nuclear arms race with average players costing eye watering sums - but can remember the fans 'demanding' certain players be signed, only then to subsequently decide they were a bit crap

Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
I've watched Bolton over 40 years
Until Allardyce, PG and ED the longest we spent in the top league was 2 seasons
We are now where we were before Allardyce arrived, though it could be argued he inherited better players
We are a mid second tier to lower top tier club - fcuk all this history shows we should be 14th in the top league
History means nowt...the whole game has changed
Even crowds mean very little in the Prem
They (or more accurately gate receipts) do in this league though and ours are so poor, we will need an exceptional manager and a generous owner - or find a new Michael Ricketts - to even dream of replicating the successes under Allardyce
So, to say the managers following him have been poor may not be accurate
They've been average, bar Coyle who relegated us with a massive wage bill - thats when the problems really began

Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
The first and biggest error was promising Sammy Lee that if Allardyce went he'd be given a shot. It was a reasonable enough idea on paper, given his coaching pedigree, just clearly not in fact. Why we were then left looking at the Megson/Souness level of manager is a mystery given how we'd done in the previous 4 or 5 seasons.
The Lee damage was repairable ... the Megson appointment was strange, though the welcome he got from a section of the support was a disgrace.
Coyle seemed a breath of fresh air ... and it was for the first period. I honestly don't think he ever got over the Stoke semi-final. Injuries ravaged us ... to an extent that boggles the mind ... and then Freedman. Fckg hell, Freedman. I still want to weep. What an astonishingly poor choice that was and I DO claim to have called that from the very outset.

Ahhh, the old injuries line
Did injuries cause him to change the team between Everton away and Wigan at home?
He was arrogant beyond belief
He had adequate resources to do the job - the 12th highest wage bill in the league (I'm thinking to 30 in the world?)
Ever since, its been a clean up operation
I've said for a while that dropping no further than this division is relative success
Lets hope we are now looking up

The irony being that Megson is probably the best manager we've had since Allardyce. Without question he did the best job.Gary the Enfield wrote:

Not disagreeing ... but the injuries did happen, were seemingly interminable and did have an impact.
He's not entitled to claim Muamba as a loss though as the pick wasn't playing him anyway.
