Re: Summer Holidays
Picture the scene, picturescue bar on the old port of Skiathos as we sip cocktails....
"where you from?" Asks the Greek waiter.
"Manchester," I reply.
"Ah, manhester, you lurve United, yes?"
"No, Bolton Wanderers."
There's a five second pause as he stares at me, then "BOLTON WANDERERS? Jeeeezuz!
He turns on his heels and walks away muttering "Shite!
I could've had him but I was mindful of Little Bobs recent post.

Re: Summer Holidays
Tsk, you need to say "Bolton Wanderers, Stelios played for them" then you get "Ahhh, Stelios, yes, yes"....I think it's probably time for Ma Claption to walk Little Bobs in the direction of the road, whilst you pi$$ up his bar...clapton is god wrote:Picture the scene, picturescue bar on the old port of Skiathos as we sip cocktails....

^ I've genuinely tried that Stelios line previously and have had blank looks in return.

I had a chat with a waiter in Zante about 5 years ago who knew all about him. You're on the wrong island.clapton is god wrote:^ I've genuinely tried that Stelios line previously and have had blank looks in return.

Aye, I would throw in Kos, Corfu, Crete, Zante and a few others....Maybe it's just that they think Clappers looks a bit shady.LeverEnd wrote:I had a chat with a waiter in Zante about 5 years ago who knew all about him. I expect to return a more mature and rounded individual.

They enjoy a nice civilized evening. Try & catch them.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

That is about all you can do I suppose. You didn't mention anything about sun bathing. I hope the weather gets better.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:It's pissed it down every day so farAbdoulaye's Twin wrote:Maldives in the morning. Doing nowt but eat, drink and read for 12 days
Two more days in Portugal and our last full day tomorrow it looks like there will be heavy rain showers.

I'm enjoying seeing proper clouds and rain to be honest, just wish the grey would go and let me have a few hours of sun to heat the pool upmalcd1 wrote:That is about all you can do I suppose. Well not having been to Cornwall for about 40 years and now a temporary resident, it's changed.
Some of the change is good, the A30 (apart from a two mile stretch the cone men are on) is a bloody good road, be ace on the bikes, caught myself doing, well a bit over the speed limit just going with the flow of this road.
Minor roads are still deadly when you meet the local panzer brigade i.e. these bloody big tractors with drivers who think they are at Silverstone.
Villages are drop dead stunning, there are some very smart pads dotted around, had a quick peep at prices, no price crash here.
Beaches, beautiful, weather Cloudy with sunny spells, not cold, bit chilly come night time when it's peed down.
Accommodation, first class you couldn't get a better apartment in a hotel like this caravan unless you paid a hell of a lot more, master bedroom even has an en-suite!
Downside, every car park is pay n display or up to a fiver a car for private fields!! robbing fecking bastards!!!

Re: Summer Holidays
It's about 30 years since I was last in Cornwall, but we did consider St Ives and Bude for our October break this year. Instead though, we are having a few days in Seahouses, Northumberland.
