surely for a game like this, having no pay-on-the gate is simply shooting yourself in the foot? Don't these clubs want to encourage as many fans to go as possible - it's not as if it's gonna be sold-out or there's gonna be any whisper of violence...
what on earth is the rationale of NOT having pay-on-the-gate?

Policing requirement probably. Or possibly stewarding numbers.thebish wrote:surely for a game like this, having no pay-on-the gate is simply shooting yourself in the foot? More likely policing.

I wondered that - but then, there ARE games where you can pay on the gate - so it's not insurmountable... if you had to know numbers in advance for policing - then no games would be pay-on-the-gate...BWFC_Insane wrote:Policing requirement probably. I suspect the police work off average home gates taking stuff like derbies into account...

It depends on what else is going on in their patch on that day and how their resources are stretched. I think they can ask for all ticket sales to be in advance so they know numbers. I've certainly heard our ticket office staff mention it as a problem sometimes.thebish wrote:I wondered that - but then, there ARE games where you can pay on the gate - so it's not insurmountable... if you had to know numbers in advance for policing - then no games would be pay-on-the-gate...BWFC_Insane wrote:Policing requirement probably. Given the game is not far away if tickets were on sale on the day and it was a nice sunny day you could imagine a few hundred Bolton fans deciding to pitch up. Which of course adds to the police work in terms of the town centre, the pubs and the ground itself.

I was going to go 5th columnist style, but Huddersfield Tony's away working.

If you like your real ale and old buildings be sure to check out the kings Head on the station. It has had a full refurb since we played then last season and it pretty cool. Restored to its old victorian style. Then nip round the corner to the sportsman

Got tickets yesterday, ticket guy said as well as scrapping pay on day, they've bumped it up by £3.50 from last season. Odd.
We'd sold 1400 by 6.30 yesterday.

Over the years, you've made some pretty outlandish 3-0 and 4-0 predictions. Non more outlandish than this one. 0-0.jaffka wrote:I fancy us sneaking a 1-0 win.

We're two thirds of a good side. If only the front bit can stop the near-missing stuff and hit the net we'll get the points, Oh, bollox to it, 4-1 us...
Edit, forgot we don't give goals away....4-0...

Apparently they dropped Nakhi Wells midweek and won but he's coming back in against us.
Changing a winning team for some shithouse who just scores goals and does nothing else?!
Thank goodness we are not carrying one of those types.
We'll shit em.

Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

We can't afford to waste goals like that!jaffka wrote:5-0 to the whites it is then.Worthy4England wrote:Over the years, you've made some pretty outlandish 3-0 and 4-0 predictions. Non more outlandish than this one. 0-0.jaffka wrote:I fancy us sneaking a 1-0 win.

We took 4,000 last year. It was Christmas, though.LeverEnd wrote:Got tickets yesterday, ticket guy said as well as scrapping pay on day, they've bumped it up by £3.50 from last season. Odd.

I'm going again tomorrow; it was a good craic last year despite the result.
