If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!

I have always thought Samaras was shite, but given the other options I'd be over the fecking moon. He's better than Emnes, anyway!

A quick look around and Celtic fans would be gutted as most seem to want him back. Fits the 'Physical presence' bill and I'd be happy with that if it's true.

A swift internet lookup gives: "For all Samaras' undoubted ability, he remains an inconsistent performer who frustrates supporters. His mazy runs often go nowhere and frequently gets caught in possession when a pass to a team-mate is available. His languid manner exacerbates supporters' frustrations and often leads to accusations of him being "lazy""
Not exactly the most glowing of testimonials.

What were you expecting of an out of contract striker within our budget?

Not a vast amount... admittedly
But the utter despair voiced by this article limits my enthusiasm even more
Some West Midland rag I've never heard of wrote: Albion misfit Georgios Samaras will return to the club on Monday with injury already casting a cloud over his pre-season.
The Greece international will be back with the Baggies after Saudi side Al-Hilal decided not to make his loan move to the Middle East permanent.
But the 30-year-old, who was farmed out by Tony Pulis in January after failing to make any impact for the Baggies under Alan Irvine, is nursing a back injury picked up at the end of last season and already looks set to miss Albion’s training camp in Austria.
The return of Samaras to pre-season training will provide a fresh headache for Pulis, who sees no future for the former Celtic man at The Hawthorns despite Samaras having a year remaining on the contract he signed last summer when he made the free-transfer move from the Old Firm club.
The Baggies hoped they had offloaded Samaras in January when he joined Al-Hilal on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer. But he failed to settle at the club and both parties decided not to make the move permanent.

Samaras or Anichebe i'd be happy with either

If its Samaras on a free & not a loan then that's even better - decent player is Samaras

If he's under contract, its a loan - 93 days maximum

If he was released before the end of the window, it might be longer

I had a look on Blue Moon to see what City fans had to say about him from a time when they were shite, and precious little of it's good.

The one line that did make me smile however was from one match in which I presume he was having a good game - "fecking hell, Samaras is playing like he's back on Youtube".

I've always rated him TBH, he always looked a handful - however, I'm not sure if he's still any good though ?. There were a few links with him in the summer and I always thought that we would be lucky to be able to get him.

But if he's motivated & up for it and likes playing for NL I think that he'll do ok, in any case surely he can't be any worse than Madine & Heskey !!

well maybe not but... I don't like the fact he was carrying an injury pre-season that was initially caused back end of last year. At 6'4" back injuries aren't a good thing to be transporting across months.

Having seen him play mostly in Internationals, he seems to be a ball hog with fancy feet, who puts in effort when he feels like it, but when he does, works hard. A quality player, but nobody likes a lazy lump. Could see him cheered and boo'd equally. Would like to see another Greek on the team regardless lol.

Reminds me of Ngog....

He is a white, hairy Ngog, but then let it not be forgotten that since we came down no striker (not Alfie, not the Juke, not Beckford) has scored more goals for us in a season than big Dave.

Frightening how quickly expectations continue to nosedive, but Samaras would do for me. feck, Ngog would do for me.

Iles on Twitter: "All sorts happening at #bwfc - done deal (as described by both clubs concerned this morning) now not a done deal."

Note that that wouldn't be Samaras, who has no other club with whom to deal.

I think a few post(er)s may be confusing each other's comments as being about Anichebe and Samaras.

It's possible (for instance) we agreed to borrow Anichebe but have now backed out to get Samaras.
