I see the popularity of Rugby Union in Namibia is on a par with yiffing.

15-0 after 10 mims. That triple figure prediction might not be so daft then...?

Re: Rugby World Cup 2015
Not quite, Sir. In response to a question about "feeding", I did mention that this looked more prevalent because of the 8 man shove rather than the hooker, hooking. I'm not convinced of it's merits vs "we're just going to solidly dominate your scrum"...I think solidity is the cornerstone and in certain situations the 8 man shunt has it's place. The try Fiji got was criminal negligence in my book, had we been well in the ascendancy, then having some forward mobility to create some space to clear the line would be good. As it happens we didn't have that, so solidity and quick out and clear would've worked better.thebish wrote:jaffka wrote:

I reckon we should hook the fecker - then do the 8 man shove! it used to work in th'olden days! Number 8's were good ball-dribblers in them days!

Yes, but it's all about control. In the Fiji scrum, we actually had the ball, but at no point were we in control of it or the scrum..Our head n ball, on our goal line, we should've been in control of both. So first is solid platform and control, then you have the option to see if you can get any shove on...
Re: Rugby World Cup 2015
aye - true enough... but I'd rather be in control with ball at the number 8's feet than in control with the ball dithering about in the middle where anything can happen!Worthy4England wrote:Yes, but it's all about control. Re: Rugby World Cup 2015
I don't think we have operated as well as a unit since the change in the laws of how the scrum comes together. The distance between the packs has been reduced and the early drive prohibited meaning that the reaction time to drive forward on masse is now narrower.
Re that scrum against Fiji, the locks are being blamed for not stepping over the ball. Imo, that means that we didn't either have enough forward momentum to do so or the ball wasn't hooked back far enough and was in that horrible in between area out of reach of the number 8 and tempts flankers and locks to try and put a boot on it which reduces overall stability.
Anyway we did better than the wallabies against Fiji, now let's put this dragon down with the sword of Saint George.

I couldn't give two hoots about Rugby Union, nor the fawning it gets in the media ... but ffs beat the Welsh & shut the fckrs up.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Rugby World Cup 2015
I've been getting nervous since Wednesday. This morning I have sang Jerusalem - which probably attracted some comment from neighbours. I haven't had a beer for a month (did Stoptober early as I know the RWC would require alcohol - starting tonight). I think I'll be fairly calm by KO...thebish wrote:am getting genuinely nervous now... either - totally fab weekend - or utter and complete disaster.... Re: Rugby World Cup 2015
Think much about today might be about early dominance. That said, rugby players rarely seem to give up like some footballers and keep battling for the eighty. Twickenham and the home advantage should work for us.... Give it plenty Jerusalem and low-swinging chariots...
