Well, that was a poor, poor four - at best.
It Follows.
OK, supernatural horror films have never been my thing, not eve remotely, so I should've known better from the off.

Great series. I've been watching the prequel/spin-off Fear The Walking Dead.clapton is god wrote:Just watched S1ep1 of The Walking Dead. Avoided it previously but my daughter insisted I give it a try.

Interesting if you're a fan but the characters aren't a patch on the originals.

cant win em all. tbh my mrs isnt interested in films unless they're 'scary' so if we wanna watch summat together it generally has to be horror. as such ive seen quite a few turkeys! this was one of the better ones! Actually i liked this better than that in fairness.Bruce Rioja wrote:Well, that was a poor, poor four - at best.

Im quite into horror films myself. If you've not already seen it, then watch "The Babadook", its brilliant.General Mannerheim wrote:cant win em all. tbh my mrs isnt interested in films unless they're 'scary' so if we wanna watch summat together it generally has to be horror. as such ive seen quite a few turkeys! this was one of the better ones! Re: What are you watching tonight?
I concur with the above Babadook recommendation. I'm not much of a horror fan but loved that.
Just watched 'A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence' and can't recommend it enough. It's like a dark, Swedish version of Monty Python's The Meaning of Life as directed by a heavily sedated Wes Anderson. It's beautifully shot with each scene consisting of a single take and no camera movements so your eye naturally gets drawn to different things in the frame and you miss others, so I think it'll definitely warrant repeat viewing.

I feel I need to redeem myself. Just noticed 'Down Terrace' is on iplayer. Ben Wheatley's (kill list, Sightseers) first film. Doesn't get much darker than that!!Bruce Rioja wrote:Well, that was a poor, poor four - at best.

If it's darker than Kill List I'm not putting myself through it. Jesus wept!General Mannerheim wrote:I feel I need to redeem myself. Just noticed 'Down Terrace' is on iplayer. It ain't far off! But if you liked kill list you should check it out. It's almost really darkly comical.LeverEnd wrote:If it's darker than Kill List I'm not putting myself through it. Re: What are you watching tonight?
I watched 'A Syrian love Story' on BBC4. It was pick of the day for a number of papers and has had a cinema release to arthouses with a lot of acclaim.
Parts of it were very moving, telling the story of a family with two young children who lose their mother because of arrest by Bashar for her opposition activities. And her release, then escape to France, then estrangement from her husband, and finally her decision to leave her family, and return to the struggle. She is now in Turkey and cultural spokesperson for the Syrian opposition in exile. Her family still try to cope with the loss.
It didn't really work for me. The distance between the domestic and political issues - does she actually love her husband or the revolution more - didn't really play out. It felt more like they had grown apart and were never going to stick together anyway, regardless of political tensions.
But still worth seeing to get a strong insight into what conflict does to families. But novel, and engaging, that the husband is the one that cares for the family, and the wife the one that that goes to fight tyranny.

This week I've had delivered from LF, Begin Again (Which I've just noticed has James cunting Corden in it) and also Still Life (General's recco) which has the brilliant Eddie Marsan in it.
