Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
Maybe Lennon thought Carlton Cole was a better bet and wanted to try for him instead, but he's gone to Celtic on a 20-month contract. Maybe there were other irons in the fire. And maybe having seen Heskey and Madine run through treacle on Tuesday, he's settled for Mr Right Now. I couldn't blame him.BWFC_Insane wrote:Marc Iles says he thinks Ameobi will sign today and could feature tomorrow....
He wasn't what we needed a little over a week ago, so I'm not entirely sure what could have changed?
IIRC Lennon didn't say Ameobi wasn't what we needed, just (I think) that he was similar to what we already have.

This is the problem then in signing Ameobi...do we really want similar to what we already have?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Maybe Lennon thought Carlton Cole was a better bet and wanted to try for him instead, but he's gone to Celtic on a 20-month contract. He's possibly better than Heskey (and Madine) so that's a bonus - and on a pay as you play contract it gives him an incentive to at least try if he gets a chance.
Then again Lennon will probably play him RB....

I'd be disappointed if not, and I suspect I wouldn't be the only one. Lennon hasn't been asking for extra quantity up front, but extra quality.Peter Thompson wrote:He's possibly better than Heskey (and Madine)

Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
My concern is that we had him on trial - as did a few other Championship clubs - and chose not to sign him after that. I can't find the BEN article about that currently... This u-turn really smacks of desperation. Not that we have much choice. He'll get my full support should it all go through.

He has signed:

It smacks of desperation ... but it could work out.
I've never been a fan of Ameobi's at all, but I'll back him while he's a White.

Amoeba: Single celled animals which move by extending finger like projections of protoplasm. Amoebas are either free-living in damp environments or parasitic!Riviman wrote:He has signed:

Let's hope it rains when he plays then

That's not a leopard!

Not having that many options it probably is desperation, but at least he's a striker.Jugs wrote:It smacks of desperation ... but it could work out.

Yeah. It feels more desperate because Lennon turned him down a week ago. Then he realised that, crikey, we actually need the bugger.TANGODANCER wrote:Not having that many options it probably is desperation, but at least he's a striker.Jugs wrote:It smacks of desperation ... but it could work out.

I'm sincerely hoping that was about terms and not his current ability.Jugs wrote:Yeah. It feels more desperate because Lennon turned him down a week ago. Not good enough for 4 clubs (including us a week ago), including Charlton who are one of our relegation rivals. A pretty poor goals record. Yet another old has bean to add to Dobbie, Madine and Heskey.
Another nail in the coffin.

Desperate measure and all that. I'd wonder at his fitness levels, but lets give the fella a chance. He can't be worse, and even a 10% improvement is still an improvement.
Tell you what though, that Plymouth fella has a lot to answer for

Tell you what, I'd like to see Dobbie thrown into the action a bit more often. He's not got enough to be starting games, but his finish against Forest shows he knows where the net is.

That one's confusing me too...If we're struggling that much, you'd give him a go, surely - it's not as if we'd lose much by trying.Jugs wrote:Tell you what, I'd like to see Dobbie thrown into the action a bit more often. If we've had Heskey, Eidur and now Ameobi, why not go the whole hog, and ring up Kevin Phillips - at least he knew where the fcking goal was.
Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
Aye, I'm all for giving youth a go, but I didn't agree with throwing on Woolery against Brum when we've got Dobbie sitting there doing nothing.

Don't worry.

He's even scored at the Nou Camp.

Lets just wait and see, sometimes the right club/manager combo turns up, this may be it?
