Yes. But what should they have done instead? Accepted relegation rather than investing to try and stay up. Once you pop the investment cork it is almost impossible to put it back in.Lord Kangana wrote:Allardyce left 8.5 years ago. We last played in Europe nearly 8 years ago. The debt didn't stop then. It accelerated away consistently and long after all of that.

That sounds dangerously like Peter Ridsdale's "we lived the dream". Still f*cked the club.
Gartside in particular is spectacularly well remunerated to make difficult decisions. I expect, with a fabulous salary, for him to make the right decisions, not what some dickheads on a forum want him to do. Its still failure.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Given Iles seems clueless really about the takeover chances I'd not be holding my breath. Clearly talks have been held but there have been talks with lots of interested parties.
Do they have any money is the first hurdle.
I think you may have mistaken my post with a big smilie on it for a serious one!

It isn't because we haven't racked up loans with banks or other financial institutions where the inability to pay back would be critical.Lord Kangana wrote:That sounds dangerously like Peter Ridsdale's "we lived the dream". Still f*cked the club.

As for the second point, this is the damned if you do damned if you don't. Once Eddie started investing it becomes like gambling. And really is up to him when and where he stops. I don't think the dynamic is the same as risky borrowing either. Eddie came in and basically saved the club. Initially he invested only to keep it afloat and by converting bank debt into his own personal debt.
Then Allardyce has us in the top flight on a budget but was increasingly ambitious. The investment into players started from Eddie, presumably to a) keep Allardyce here and b) because he had the funds to do so.
Unfortunately in that time teams started spending more and more simply to avoid relegation. Look at the money Allardyce spent at West Ham doing little but keeping them safely in the top flight at times.
The dynamic changed and Eddie had a decision. Carry on investing or cut his losses. Ultimately the dynamic is more complex than Gartside racking up debt. Eddie was investing his own money into a business he owned. Gartside ultimately isn't making that decision.
Of course many mistakes have been made along the way. Nobody denies that. But Gartside is employed by Eddie to run a business. Essentially that is who he reports to, not as you put it some dickheads on a forum. He does what Eddie wants. The investment and when to stop was Eddie's choice and Gartside may or may not have been involved in those decisions. You or I don't know.
My point is that a) this is entirely different to Leeds. b) the debt is fairly irrelevant to the whole situation as much as people seem to miss this. We are struggling because we have little to spend on players. If Eddie has cut the ties earlier we'd have just had little to spend earlier. Our position would not be different. It would just have worsened more quickly and with less prior success.

Nice to know BWFC-insane that there are Wanderers supporters who have been able to grasp what has been happening since Eddie Davies first started supporting the club with the money he had made from growing a successful and respectable business.BWFC_Insane wrote:It isn't because we haven't racked up loans with banks or other financial institutions where the inability to pay back would be critical.Lord Kangana wrote:That sounds dangerously like Peter Ridsdale's "we lived the dream". Anyone who knows anything about business will know that a chairman might well influence a board but it is the board that is responsible for making the key decisions. The big decisions in football clubs, though, are always gambles but big clubs have a lot to gamble with and can afford to lose what the smaller clubs cannot. It is never an even playing field and has been getting progressively less even for half a century.

Don't know which thread to put this in.. Don't know if it's been mentioned. Below rumours
ED has full on pulled the plug now. Not a single penny. Warburtons paid wages in June and July and no players have been paid for October.
That high interest loan we took hasn't been repaid and that money was to keep the lights on
If ED doesn't sell soon, there won't be a club left to sell

I find it hard to believe players haven't been paid - given we've not heard a peep from them regarding that.boltonboris wrote:Don't know which thread to put this in.. Don't know if it's been mentioned. Below rumours

However, the rest is pretty much what Nixon et al have said for months isn't it? 10M a year needed to cover costs, Eddie won't put it in. To bridge this year there was a loan from Warburtons plus sale of land. That is already out there....

Because that story would have leaked to the press by now I think. Players aren't usually shy in leaking such things. Not saying it is impossible but the loan from Warbies and land sale presumably were done to cover the wage bill for this year. God knows what happens next year.boltonboris wrote:Why?BWFC_Insane wrote:I find it hard to believe players haven't been paid....boltonboris wrote:Don't know which thread to put this in.. Seems the answer to my original question gets more like a yes everyday.
Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham
