We're getting diddly this year, despite doing our "numbers" and fishing out the rest of Europe too. Probably get a wage rise every other year circa 3-4%. Just have to win sh×t to take up the slack and do it a different way round.

Years ago, working as a cop, I enjoyed virtually every minute of the job. The one exception was Christmas Day, 7 of which I worked on the run. Every year brought the same. About 2pm we'd get a call to a domestic and every year I'd find the same scene. Distraught dad sat on the pavement, crying kids at the window and an abusive woman at the door. He wanted to see the kids, she wouldn't let him and the kids were gutted. Several years I saw presents thrown back across a lawn or driveway. I'd offer to stay while he had 5 minutes with the kids, an offer that was always turned down. Leaving after ushering the poor sod away, I'd have to return 30 minutes later because he was trying to kick the door down. A night in the cells usually followed.

As someone whose ex wife said "You'll never see your kids on Christmas Day again, ever" I listened with interest to a bloke on 5 live this morning who was having his 4 year old daughter to stay for Christmas. You could hear the joy in his voice after several Christmases without her. I hope the poor bugger didn't get let down. For any of you who won't see your kids tomorrow, I hope you're Ok and will get some time with them in the next week, you have my utmost sympathy. Just remember, it's never worth dressing as Batman and scaling the Reebok floodlights or Buckingham Palace- the kids can't see its you.

We've just had a waif and stray staying over unexpectedly for a couple of nights. Friend of the daughters, headed over to try and see his daughter from London. His old man won't talk to him, so he was up here without a pot to piss in, no home to get into and until late last night when we managed to arbitrate no access to his daughter.

He managed to pick her up about an hour ago. Hope it goes well....

Worried for the daughter who lives down the bottom of Ringley. Water is just one inch below the front door step right now. They can only leave the house in wellies and the front garden is totally underwater. Really worrying.

Driving to park run this morning, which unsurprisingly was cancelled, the roads around Bolton were flooded. Lever End and Bruce had turned up as well. No sign of BP though oddly

Just driven from Bury to Whittle le Woods and back. Not too bad a journey, but had to laugh at the sight of a BMW being dragged onto a breakdown truck on the approach to the Crown, coming from Adlington. Both lanes on that side of the road were flooded, but this cock decided to drive through it.

I was in hospital today (as i often am) - and had cause to be sat waiting next to the poster...



ok... the left hand blue box...

those appear to be questions and answers - so they should not all be part of the same "rank" of bullet list - surely?

also - why the feck does the fourth bullet point have a question mark on the end?? WHY?????

in the tick-box section... what is the difference between "neither likely nor unlikely" and "don't know"?

as for the concept itself..

it is specifically for ward admissions and A&E visits...

IF my family member or friend is in torquay and suffer a medical emergency - so as to necessitate a visit to Accident and Emergency - then Torbay is the nearest A&E - by about an hour's drive.

so - in the event of such an emergency - would I recommend that they go to Torbay A&E?? yes - of course I fecking would!!! duh!!! I'd have tick the box labelled "extremely likely"...

and in conducting such an exercise the govt has spent millions learning pretty much NOTHING other that the fairly obvious fact that in a medical emergency, Torbay A&E is not SO dangerously bad that I'd recommend an hour's drive to Exeter to avoid it!
