what does the phrase "his head has gone" actually mean?
He's lost his cool and continually panics. Doesn't think clearly on the pitch.

He still has the pace and makes some great recovery challenges. Trouble is he has to because usually it is recovery from his own mistake.
so - in saying he has lost his head - that would mean that he used to be cool, not panic and he used to demonstrate an ability to think clearly on the pitch?

how do you separate that from "his confidence has completely gone" - or are they the same thing?
I think the situation has created a lack of confidence in him that has led to his play being more panicked. He is a relatively young lad from a foreign country and suspect the situation is a bit much for him. May get sent back anyway if we can't afford to pay his wage I guess.

Agreed. Was really impressed with him during his first few games for us, but recently he's shown more mistakes than Ream ever did. I still can't believe that he ducked away from a header being the last man back at Blackburn, which we thankfully weren't punished for.
which to me shows he has balls of steel - the easier less confident thing would have just try to head it back.

I think I be panicking as one of our centre halfs, the way our midfield was parting like the red sea letting 2,3 or 4 players run at our back line. What I like about Prince is that he is a very positive defender - he'll try to get in front, get close and never lets the forward receiving the ball settle and is quick. The downside of his approach is that it only takes the forward to put his shoulder in when he's coming round the side to take him out of position. His distribution has become more wayward but again I see that as symptomatic of the team not showing for the ball

It seems to me that some folk have got it into their heads that Vela has become some sort of poster boy for our academy with our fans; an overrated, preening talent who hasn't come good on all that was expected of him, and instead has an attitude problem.

The reality, IMHO, is that he's just a decent young player with plenty of potential, one who needs a proper run of games in the centre of midfield with a consistent partner.
Sorry, but at his age if the 'potential' has not been found nor tapped into, he never is going to be a 'world beater' nor 'superstar'.
He maybe a better midfielder than I, but then again, I was a goalkeeper.
Any money we can raise from his sale would be helpful both to the club and the player.
It's sad we have to spend so much time debating and arguing over a young kid when we have a bunch of so called, useless, well paid tossers who couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo and a w*nker of a manager who frankly would struggle to get pissed in a brewery!
I could argue that it hasn't, and that it is hardly his fault. He spent last season at right back, and has only played in CM this season in fits and starts, with Lennon preferring to use him as an emergency RB. This despite a solid pre-season where he started most of the games in CM, only to be dropped for the first game of the season. Previously, he played under a manager who loaned him to Notts County and was ready to either loan him out again or keep him in limbo at Lostock. The reality is that he hasn't had the chance to properly get going at Bolton, at least in midfield.

And there we go again with 'world beater' and 'superstar'. No one is saying he has the potential to be either, but people keep on insisting that some fans have dreamt up an insane and irrational idea that he's some sort of goldenballs who has all the answers. This then means people end up with high expectations and blame him when he hasn't made good on all that seductive promise.

But we (Vela fans) haven't got it into our heads that he's the messiah. He's just a decent footballer who I'd much rather keep if we don't have to sell. He's young, talented, presumably on a low wage, and he'll benefit us in the longer term more than Neil Danns or Darren Pratley.

Shit I forgot about Pratley.

He's gone from a dozen decent games to being absolute shit again. Captain my arse

In his defence his managers have been Coyle, Freedman and Lennon, who we have all agreed are shit and unable to get the best out of anyone/thing. I think there is a decent Championship player in there, but suspect it's not going to happen with all the shit and doom hanging around the club.

I rate Spearing. Unfortunately, he's always the first to be subbed. Predictable.

I recall he started away at Charlton and within 30 seconds he'd been caught in possession which led to us conceding the first goal. He played 75 minutes in the home draw to Fulham and was hauled off after 61 minutes (replaced by Wellington) at Rotherham on boxing day and hasn't been seen since.

His substitution against Fulham cost us 2 points in my opinion

The thing with Spearing under Lennon is he gets chucked back in, gets subbed, and gets chucked out again.

Also Lennon has praised him for playing well then dropped him again.
I think he's a victim of Lennon still thinking like a manager of the best squad in a shit league who doesn't need a defensive midfielder.

Our midfield was appalling on Saturday

Watch the re-run of Huddersfield goals, they are running at our defence without a midfielder in sight. Reminded me of Coyle's shambles when Chelsea beat us 5 nil at home and we let David Luiz run at us unchallenged.

In fact our defence was appalling too. Wheater is only good for standing there and getting in the way of the ball by letting it bounce off him (a la Blackburn the previous match).

Attack was appalling too.

I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed at game at the Reebok / Macron. People got excited about Blackburn last match but the only real exciting bit about it was the atmosphere after we scored.

As for watching us away , you sit there waiting for the opposition to score and then wait to go home

I am rambling. Well at least it's off my chest now

Regards, Phil,
