well - whatever happens I still think Eddie should have a Bolton statue one day - and then - if you like - some of you can sneak up overnight and pi$$ on it, just to make you happy.
Re: The Debt.
If you're insistent on using the word 'Bird' to describe a woman, then you weren't much of a catch in the first place. Have you just emerged from 1978??boltonboris wrote:He's a tw*t... I've used this analogy before nut I'll use it again
Let's say I'm a multi-millionaire and I go meet a bird with a couple of kids.. I put the kids through private school and they love it and they make friends there. I house them all in a lovely mansion and give them a great lifestyle.. Nice guy aren't I?
Then one day a few years later, the missus ain't looking as sexy as she once did and I'm a bit bored of her, so I stop funding the family, I stop paying for their school, I stop paying the bills in the house and I make them fend for themselves despite them becoming accustomed to the life that I gave them. I can still afford it, but I just don't want to do it anymore.
Not such a nice guy afterall, am I?

It's the origin in our parts too. British sailors brought it back in the 1800s along with some actual bints in a number of cases.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Which means daughter in these parts. The way I'm feeling at the moment about ED & PG, neither should even have an individual seat named after them - never mind a stand or a statue.

Re: The Debt.
I think the analogy reasonable if a bit clunky.
The point remains - we know ED backed us (although I'm unsure as to how much of his actual own hard cash he put in - we owe him shitloads more than he ever put in), but to end it like this when you've known what's been going on for years is, to my mind, a sign of not really giving a shiny one who you screw over. We could easily have had a softer landing than this.
My own sneaky suspicion, and I have no real hard evidence for this so take it how you will, is that Gartside has hidden from ED (perhaps a strong word, maybe "misled"?) certain aspects of the day-to-day operation of the club. And that only recently, given Gartside's illness, have some of the truly awful aspects of the club really become apparent.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Re: The Debt.
I did wonder about that last part meself...Surely ED is likely to have looked at (or been presented to) a summary of the top level accounts and forward projections etc. but I'd be surprised if he did anything at a lower level than set a budget (if at all this last year as we know he'd given notice he wanted to sell up). He had someone operating the Club - as far as we know within the boundaries he'd set previously, given that Gartside has remained in post so long. So it's more than possible he wasn't close to the detail.Lord Kangana wrote:I think the analogy reasonable if a bit clunky.

This being a man who's made his millions out of kettle elements and a network of intertwined overseas companies. And he took his eye off the ball? So much so that it transpires there is more debt than the wiped out debt and some of that debt is owed to him specifically! Yup. Why not? Plenty of Banks done write-downs in the last few years. My Company wrote down shitloads - happens plenty often by some "clever people"...Lost Leopard Spot wrote:This being a man who's made his millions out of kettle elements and a network of intertwined overseas companies. Re: The Debt.
the whole saga stretches credulity in all different kind of ways, and giving them (ED/PG/ the board) some basic degree of competence which they must have, makes you think that some kind of game changing trigger event or fall out has happened.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:This being a man who's made his millions out of kettle elements and a network of intertwined overseas companies. Given the seemingly arse and elbow approach, makes it more understandable that NL perhaps hasnt had the easiest of times in understanding the clubs financial position, both when he took the job and in subsequent player recruitment budgeting

Re: The Debt.
Or perhaps the pair of them have been operating in such a way that ED wouldn't want anyone else taking on the PG role, because of what they might find, so the game is finally up and it's a brutal exit strategy.Lord Kangana wrote:My own sneaky suspicion, and I have no real hard evidence for this so take it how you will, is that Gartside has hidden from ED (perhaps a strong word, maybe "misled"?) certain aspects of the day-to-day operation of the club. Or given the half-truths and outright lies we've been fed over the past few years, I don't think it's totally unreasonable that some may question whether PG is actually as seriously ill as we have been told, and whether it is a convenient way of him getting out of the line of fire with no questions asked. I know, I know, some may regard that as out of bounds and distasteful, but would any Bolton fan still blindly trust a single word from any of our board of directors?
Either way, the timing of PG's reported illness and ED pulling out of the club so swiftly and savagely must surely be more than just a coincidence.

I don't offer my scenario as a fait accompli - I'm sure there a dozen angles you could come at it. But I find it difficult to think theres no reason why this is happening beyond ED saying "yeah, Bolton Wanderers? F8ck em couldn't care less about them".
