I've no idea to be honest, but from the bits and the pieces I'd read on here that it was all but done and dusted? Not sure though mate.thebish wrote:has he? what - as in, actually gone? I may have missed that in all the excitement!Jugs wrote:But I've said all I need to say on Mavies, and he's gone now so good luck to him.

Same!Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I have a hunch that this season has been Mavies's most reliable in terms of appearances. Maybe I'll get round to checking that, but I'm not promising. I do have work to do...
(Speaking of which, if anybody knows a site that shows a team's results by opponent - eg Norwich not beating Liverpool in ages, Spurs usually losing to Chelsea - I'm all ears)

Thanks for site tips, folks. In exchange, here's a Marc Iles tweet:
"Mark Davies' agent weighing into a messy move to #swfc now - claiming club tried to pull out on medical grounds without a medical!"

maybe they judged that the rigours of the actual medical - doing some running and stuff - would probably result in injury?

I quite agree. Was aware of Soccerbase's H2H - have plugged it on here a time or two - and besides Soccerway, there's also Soccerassociation and Statto do decent jobs too, and Footymad's league history feature is very useful, but there's no one site to pull them all together. I did once spend a day or so trying to compile a wishlist of the best bits but I went a bit boggly-eyed... probably needs someone bookishly data-driven to do the hard thinking with input from an editorial type like me...Dr.Karl wrote:http://www.soccerbase.com/teams/head_to_head.sd
Has all the results between two teams. On a side note, I'm surprised there isn't a go to website like IMDb for football. Soccerway is good, but only for recent seasons. I think there could be a market for it, add features like which player played with which player at which club etc

To be fair, I'm no doctor but can still tell you that Mavies is a long-term injury waiting to happen.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Thanks for site tips, folks. In exchange, here's a Marc Iles tweet:

Re: Spotty's Seriously Sub-standard Second Rate Transfer Thr
I was questioning the logic of paying money to have an asset taken off our hands to reduce the outgoings AT THIS STAGE.thebish wrote:now you're just being silly! we may have to sell the training ground - but it's not the same scenario or logic as selling a player.BWFC_Insane wrote:The training ground doesn't make us money. It will have a running cost associated with it though, so lets pay someone to take that off our hands?thebish wrote:nahh - offloading an asset that costs us tons of cash in order to make the business more attractive is NOT the same logic as offloading an asset that brings in cash to make the business more attractive.
either way - I don't share your conclusion that Birch is some kind of raging thicko who doesn't know what he's doing.
a player is much easier to replace with a less costly alternative than a training ground is - and we have spare players already on the books.
and - I was referring to your hotel comment...
The logic of getting a few hundred thousand to buy an extra week or two for negotiation whilst also reducing the wage bill is fine. Absolutely understandable and Davies for say £500K would make sense under the circumstances given he's a high earner and not really reaching his potential.
The idea however, of moving him out and it costing us money to do so AT THIS STAGE, simply doesn't seem to make all that much sense to me. I don't think he's of zero value as a playing asset. I also don't see how in the short term it helps. And we are in short term mode right now. Lets say we've paid him 3 months wages. For 3 months we're down a player and have no benefit at all.
But lets say a new owner arrived, who could pay the wage bill this season and maintain things. Then Davies could easily be worth something as a sellable asset and we wouldn't have to accept the first vulture that came a circling....
Also it really grates given we apparently have an ace neogtiator in place to squeeze every penny out of deals that we are having to PAY to give another side one of our better players. I really don't think under normal circumstances that would be the best deal we could do. And I question how logical it is to do that deal NOW.

Nixon says Davies trained with us today.
Iles says Davies' agent claims Wednesday were trying to pull out on medical grounds before he'd had a medical.

They probably own an X-ray machine at Sheffield Wednesday and subsequently shit themselves when Davies disappeared after they switched it on.

is that the car park, office or hotel money thats paid that then ?Bruce Rioja wrote:Medo's gone - contract cancelled by mutual consent.
Medo will always remain a mystery - seemed a coup when we signed him, ok but nothing special, but at same time not bad enough to be completely frozen out. Guess he fell out of favour and couldnt be arsed trying to get back in, or soon realised it didnt matter what he did. Slightly bizarrely he has tweeted a rather gushing farewell

I saw him in the car park at Astley Bridge Asda last week. Just got out of an expensive looking Range Rover. He looked trim and athletic. I'm sure he will get fixed up somewhere.

He might score the winner for Dougie on Saturday...
In seriousness, I wonder if we paid some severance or if he just waived the last six months of his contract. He hasn't exactly been clawing at the walls to get out, has he?
And if we did pay severance (and are/were possibly willing to do so for Mavies), is this more evidence of emergency cost-cutting?
And is anyone going to claim we've lost an asset which might damage the sale of the club?
"F*ck this," says Deano, "No Medo, no deal"

In all honesty DSB I believe your talents are wasted. Some little while back I saw a drama on Tv recalling the genesis of Dad's Army.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:He might score the winner for Dougie on Saturday...

You need to jack your present job in and write a screenplay for a sitcom called "The Decay & Fall of Trotters & Co".
At the conclusion of series one I want to hear the actor playing Deano to say precisely that - Fxck this, no Medo, no deal.
