Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I wasn't at all implying I wouldn't get legal aid because I'm not an Iraqi, I'm stating I wouldn't normally get it because I work and I earn a few quid, for example in criminal matters. Johnny Lazy Tw4t will get it every one of the 28 times he's arrested for burglary, whereas i presume I wouldn't get it even for a first offence. Sadly, I suspect many of the soldiers won't be entitled either?
Harry is wrong to suggest the Iraqi cases aren't spurious as I believe out of almost 300 cases, non have yet been proven. Why an offence is tried here and subject to legal aid and not in Iraq, where they could whistle for it is beyond me. I take your point Harry, but it's not like the legal firms have the interest of the Iraqis at heart is it?!
Apparently, the way it works is that law firms have got hold of the detention records from that period. They instruct teams in Iraq to find each and every one of those detained, who are then asked questions like "Were you treated roughly by British soldiers". Given that they were suspected terrorists, handcuffed and transported in military vehicles, no one is likely to answer in the negative. An affirmative answer then results in a claim for legal aid. It's a scandal and nothing more than a thinly disguised scam.

It's not even thinly disguised.
But then the fact that CAGE is accepted as a genuine charity in this country just demonstrates the porosity of our defenses when it comes to legal attacks by forces who fundamentally disagree with the very freedoms they operate under, and the willingness of members of our own society who should know better but who just manipulate the law to line their own pockets.

Certainly sounds like ambulance chasing at its worst but no proven cases? What about the poor beggar (I forget his name - Moussar Ahmed?) who was a hotel receptionist tortured to death by British soldiers

To right what seems to be an oft mis-perceived (yet again) misconception, you do realise Legal Aid is essentially a loan, right? It's not free money to sue above for anything... It helps people who couldn't otherwise access the legal system access it. It's not: scallies sue druggies: on our dime.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
So the Iraqis will be paying it back then if they lose? And Joe Scrote being represented for the 37th time will have to pay for it? Really?? That's a tad disingenuous, as no matter what happens, the lawyers get paid. Even if they've manufactured a spurious lead from nowhere to line their own pockets.Prufrock wrote:To right what seems to be an oft mis-perceived (yet again) misconception, you do realise Legal Aid is essentially a loan, right? The f4ckfeatures who've spray painted Fukushima and CND logo on the dead whales. FFS!. Yes, I know they're dead and can't feel it, and wouldn't understand it even if they weren't dead, but that's not the fxckin point. Have some respect for life you tw@ts, would you spray paint anti-ISIS slogans on the slaughtered bodies of ISIS victims? Spray painting driftwood on a beach is bad enough, so have some fxcking respect you tossers.

Nicky f*cking Morgan, again. Decided to ban groups like the BHA making complaints on behalf of parents when faith schools break admissions laws. She said she wanted to stop "vexatious" complaints by "secularist campaign groups", despite the fact that the BHA won 97% of its cases, and every single school they complained about was found to have broken the law.

Nothing unusual that a man with no faith should be the first complaining about faith schools policies.Prufrock wrote:Nicky f*cking Morgan, again. Well, technically he's complaining about changes to the rules around complaining about faith schools policies.TANGODANCER wrote:Nothing unusual that a man with no faith should be the first complaining about faith schools policies.Prufrock wrote:Nicky f*cking Morgan, again. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Do you think it's OK that schools are acting unlawfully in their admissions? Or that when someone points out that this is happening, the Department of fecking Education's response is not to stop those schools breaking the law, but stop people pointing out that they've broken the law and trying to hold them accountable?TANGODANCER wrote:Nothing unusual that a man with no faith should be the first complaining about faith schools policies.Prufrock wrote:Nicky f*cking Morgan, again. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I suspect that this issue lies not just with faith schools but with any school that the govt allows to be its own admissions authority - this also applies to academies and free schools which (several reports have shown) are also riding roughshod over admissions policy. The govt wants to make many, many more schools into academies and allow them to be their own admissions authority - the problem is set to get worse rather than better.
I am sure Pru can reassure us that that the BHA outrage is really a genuine concern for UK-wide schools admission fairness and that the BHA is just as assiduous in reporting non-faith academies and free schools for admissions misdeeds too. it is wrong wherever it happens.

This has been going on for further back than I have experience of, Harry. Why Tesco have been singled out in 2016 I've no idea. Nearly all top end retailers across all trade channels are nothing but bullies who are happy to send independent suppliers to the wall.Harry Genshaw wrote:Tesco behaving like some mafiosa with their suppliers. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
They've been named coz paperwork shows it to be a deliberate policy. An illegal policy, in my understanding. First time paperwork has been uncovered, hence why 2016 and Tesco. As you say Bruce it coulda been Anyfuckinbigbollock and 1999 but back then they were more circumspect in their record disposal tactics, that or they deliberately kept it under the carpet.Bruce Rioja wrote:This has been going on for further back than I have experience of, Harry. Aye I did think it might be more widespread. Tesco copped for it because they were already being investigated by some Grocery body or other for their accounting methods. Chap on 5 live tonight was saying Waitrose and Sainsburys had good business ethics but I'd be surprised if Asda were any better than Tesco since they're owned by the extremely vicious bastards wal-martBruce Rioja wrote:This has been going on for further back than I have experience of, Harry. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I'm not sure, though I doubt it as it's an interest group - it's not "for" holding all schools admissions to account. That's how the legal system works, interest groups with the money and man power take on cases individuals couldn't reasonably do.thebish wrote:I suspect that this issue lies not just with faith schools but with any school that the govt allows to be its own admissions authority - this also applies to academies and free schools which (several reports have shown) are also riding roughshod over admissions policy. I hope and imagine there are other interest groups that would/ do take up the case in the other areas you mention. I'd certainly understand their outrage and suppor their position if the govt. tried to stop them doing that in their area, and particularly if in doing so it dismissed them as "vexatious" despite them winning 97% of their cases and every school they compalined about being found to have broken the law.
I'm sure generally the BHA supports fair admission across the country, though when it comes to taking on cases the remit is going to be specific. Seems fair enough to me.

The biggest bunch of utter nice people that I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with are Messrs Block & Quayle. By far and away the most ethically sound and most truly wonderful multiple retailer that I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with is, and this'll come as no surprise to one or two, EH Booth.Harry Genshaw wrote:Aye I did think it might be more widespread.
