Depends how defensively minded Simons is. We’d definitely have too many central midfielders if we signed this Swedish lad.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 6:28 pmNot the profile we want but definitely the profile we need.The_Gun wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 6:20 pmAppears to be a 6’4” defensive midfielder - not the profile of player I was expecting us to be pursuing at this stage.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 5:52 pmhttps://fotbolldirekt.se/silly-season/u ... er-ceesay/

I mean if Simons counts as one he’s the only one we’ve got. So another seems more than sensible. Especially given as our lack of midfield presence was one of the biggest issues in the last three seasons. We’ve never replaced MJ.The_Gun wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 6:54 pmDepends how defensively minded Simons is. I’m not against bringing someone like that in, as long as they can also pass the ball. Bringing in another body in the centre of the park to me would mean we’d need to sell two of Thomason, Morley and Sheehan, though.
Edit: I think I’ve got my maths wrong here. We’d need to sell at least one of last season’s central midfielders, but maybe not two. Dempsey probably also on borrowed time.

Rumour's strong enough for Iles to do a story on it, although nowt from the club yet.
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Have we considered bringing in anyone to play on the sides?

Can see this happening if we push Sheehan up to 10, and listen to offers for one of the others. Not exactly a priority position though.

Well Iles seems to be suggesting the Swedish mon can play left back which then ties a lot up. A big hulking left back who can fill in at DM seems quite logical.

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
We've spent more than one season, watching teams run through from their defensive third to ours. And sure, I want people who can pass. I also want them to be able to tackle, stay fit, break up attacks. We have any number of players who can pass, they just can't get hold of the ball far too often on transition.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 8:36 pmI mean if Simons counts as one he’s the only one we’ve got. This reminded of Derik Osede, whom we bought as a defender and played at DM too. I hope this Swede is better.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 7:53 amWell Iles seems to be suggesting the Swedish mon can play left back which then ties a lot up. Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
What would the work permit situation be anyway? I think this is an unlikely deal tbh. Sounds like fanciful reporting especially since we are committed to in person scouting, this guy hasn’t played much and feels like he’d be a random data pick if anything. Doubt we have had time to really look at these sorts of markets and work out options. That’s a year or two of work.
I guess if Iles has written it he must think there is something in it - fair do’s and if he can play LB and DM I could see the logic but I just don’t see the link to how we’d have picked him.
Far as I know we still have hope for Jacob.

I think it's:
A) if he qualifies for a work permit great, no issues, though it seems unlikely he would; or
B) we have two (I think) ESC spots which are basically exemptions from normal work permit rules. As far as I know Schon takes up one (you can move to a full WP if you later qualify but doubt he does) and so we have one left.

Promising young winger/10 Dubem Eze loaned to Scunthorpe for the season.
https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/2 ... pe-united/
Scunny are back in the fifth tier after promotion last season from the National League North.
Have to say I was initially slightly disappointed Eze didn't get a better destination - he shifted up in spring from tier 6 to Halifax, chasing play-off promotion back to the league - but on reflection, maybe we think at Glanford Park he'll get more game-time. The BN is reporting it's his final season but we do have a year's extension option, and 2026/27 will be his final underage season, so we've got time yet.

Yeah something about it doesn’t scan right to me. Was he maybe a legacy target and they are using that history to try and draw out other suitors?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 10:07 amIronic we get a Scandi-rando link on the weekend Ludonautics bite the dust.

More likely it's one Fergal was alerted to when he was at Liege - or Jimmy at Plymouth.

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
A cub Sheffield Wednesday reporter is linking us with Theo Corbeanu, a 6ft3in forward/winger currently back in his native Canada on loan at MLS side Toronto.
Just turned 23, he was in England from age 16 to 20, owned by Wolves and loaned to Sheff Wed (D3), MK Dons (D3) and Blackpool (D2) for half a season each, making 17 or 18 appearances at each club. He was then loaned to a German second-division team and a Swiss top-flight club, again each for a half a season, before being bought by Spanish top-flight strugglers Granada.
What's confusing about the link is that Stateside media reported his season-long loan to the MLS (whose season is March-October) includes a buyout clause, although I suppose it's possible his agent is trying to spur Toronto into activating it. Certainly the link, such as it is, also names usual suspects Huddersfield along with Orient, Lincoln and Vale, for a change.

Don’t forget the Swedish league is played in summer so is a quarter of the way through now.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:20 amWhat would the work permit situation be anyway? Ceesay has played over 100 games in the Swedish top division and only turned 22 last month. It might not be an exceptional level in Sweden but it is not bad number of games played. It looks like he has played 10 from 13 games this season which started on 29th March and finishes on 9th November. We may have scouted him enough this current season to see he would be a good signing.
