It's full of poseurs these days, I prefer the man and scythe or dog and partridge in town. Mate lives round the corner though so sometimes go there en route from Bob's Smithy to town.bobo the clown wrote:Yep ... the Victoria.Lord Kangana wrote:Yeah, Victoria inn or something is the real name isn't it? I seldom 9very seldom) go in there, but an ex of mine used to like it and lived up there. Not really my cup of tea.
I expect I'd be 3x the average age these days.
Often see Diouf in there, had his Leeds mates with him last time, Tonge and someone else. Dowie turns up there a lot as well although he doesn't count as he has never worn the shirt.
Seeing Diouf dressed like a cartoon version of 50 cent amongst all the Young Conservative types was mildly amusing I suppose.

It was, "back in the day" (apologies) virtually Bolton School's 6th form social centre. A few 'other school' wallah's like myself and the Markland Hill 'tennis set'.LeverEnd wrote:It's full of poseurs these days, I prefer the man and scythe or dog and partridge in town. There was some very acceptable totty available (and I DO mean "available") and there was never the faintest danger of not getting served ... other than in the sense of it being so full you could barely get to the bar and so buying a double round was advisable.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

When I was in 5th/6th form (early 90s) it was always The Blue Boar and The Old Three Crowns in town for underage drinking (and the magnificent Pink Panther). But then I lived in Great Lever so was too scared to go to most of my locals, except the Brooklyn!

Had my first pint at the Bob Smithies, 14 years old in 1966, there was about 10 of us walked from town centre because someone told us they'd serve anyone with no questions asked. spent a fair bit of time there after that.
Born to be a Wanderer!!

I also frequented the Blue Boar and Old Three Crowns in the mid to late nineties when at 6th form. In fact I saw Supa John in there a couple of days before the last game at BurndenLeverEnd wrote:When I was in 5th/6th form (early 90s) it was always The Blue Boar and The Old Three Crowns in town for underage drinking (and the magnificent Pink Panther). Pfffft.

Colleagues of mine caught a legendary Wanderer in a compromising position twice in a week in the Octagon car park with different women. Said player was also a legendary swordsman. Allegedly.

Probably served you a pint in the Old 3, worked there 94-96 during student holidays.TKIZ! wrote:I also frequented the Blue Boar and Old Three Crowns in the mid to late nineties when at 6th form. You'd think football players would be able to afford a hotel room or something, wouldn't you?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Legendary swordsman: Zorro.
Lever End: You'll have been serving our lot then. Mid-90s routine was straight from Burnden to do the Tripe 'n' Trotters player ratings at the pub on Nelson Square/Silverwell Street that didn't have music on - Google Streetview tells me it's now the Post Office bar. Couple of hours later, Man & Scythe, Old Three, Blue Boar and maybe end up at that club on Spa Road, I forget that name too...

I was actually a member of Markland Hill (junior and senior) until about 1968. I'm not sure what era you refer to Bobo, but I may have known the acceptable totty....bobo the clown wrote:It was, "back in the day" (apologies) virtually Bolton School's 6th form social centre. I preferred the "VIP" section of Atlantis, which usually consisted of Per Frandsen looking very bored.

I used to work the kitchens matchdays at Burnden in the appallingly named 'Executive Suite' then 3 Crowns at night. Really enjoyed working both jobs. Before that I worked at Chester Moonshines for the bloko who modeled himself on George Michael and went on Stars In Their Eyes!
