But as you say we should have had a PR agency who screens and checks these things. Nothing to do with the football side, but I’m a bit surprised we’ve made this error.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 3:44 pmRecruitment is a split process at most clubs, especially for players signed on the manager's recommendation.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 3:35 pmIt’s nothing to do with Evatt. He can’t know this stuff or have time to be on top of it. But I’m surprised FV aren’t. It’s standard due diligence for many businesses now.
There's plenty of blame to go around when someone cocks up.
Mostly the blame belongs to Charles himself, but hopefully the club learns lessons.
A few years ago, sure. But now…no. Shouldn’t have happened.
In no way can you blame Evatt cos he knew him or whatever. It’s down to due diligence. And these would have been picked up very quickly in that process and account deleted or whatever…or change of heart etc….

The official club statement is....a car crash. Thank god we're not a high profile club by national standards.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
The manager's social network is part of due diligence. He should have spoken to a lot of people about Charles and I find it hard to fathom how nothing came up as a red flag. The lad had a rep in the game - those can be misleading, but you check. Former teammates and coaches have things to say - people can be bitter, but you check.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 4:14 pmIn no way can you blame Evatt cos he knew him or whatever. The fact he was training with the reserves in itself should have triggered a full background even if they're not standard.
I am not blaming Evatt, or anyone else. I think they've clearly all dropped the ball a bit here and there's no point picking out anyone.

fecking hell, so that’s a ban then.
Maybe our shit for brains fans might think twice before thinking of the next ‘genius’ wind up for the shit for brains Wigan fans…presumably same will happen for their players as well.

Just generally for being a difficult, arrogant *personage* who won't take advice. The sort of thing that should make you very, very careful.
Nobody has said to me, "Of course, he's a notorious racist." People have said generally that they're not at all surprised.
If this hadn't come up today I'd not have texted anyone and nobody would have ever said anything. So it's not like he's some social pariah.

Change of tack for a minute. Any update on those Hartigan rumours or were they just that? Rumours?

Don’t agree at all on it being on IE. You can ask about someone all you like. But this needs an agency reviewing their social media. Should be standard.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 4:37 pmThe manager's social network is part of due diligence. Ha. That bit was a little ermmm cringey but it didn’t seem car crash. I suppose if you start with any number of Ken missives and call them car crash you’ve got a lot of headroom.LeverEnd wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 6:05 pmThat he's made the Baby Jesus sad?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 5:48 pmThought it was ok myself. Aye, I thought the Jesus stuff was a bit cringe but otherwise fine.

There are simple rules to follow in public apologies. Don't try and exonerate yourself (Dion says he's not a bigot), don't include forgiveness from people outside the affected groups (Sharon), don't try and rebalance the morality against those not okay with moving on (my faith says to forgive him) as it's just smug and self-righteous, I could go on.
If we were a big club, or this were a political figure, that would have been shredded.
Also the stuff about "Dion will get the support he needs" casts entirely the wrong tone. He needs educating, not support. The people affected by his comments should be offered the support and consideration.
The comms person who approved that needs to have a word with themselves. I'll drop it now. It genuinely winds me up to see something that bad get approved, but least of all from my club.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
My guess is Charles will get a hefty fine and a suspended 3/5 game ban. Not condoning what he said for an instant but this age at the time may just work in his favour. And the FA can't really give it a holier than thou attitude seeing as it's took this long for it to come to light. Then again, thinking abut it, this is the FA we're talking about!

We need to learn from this. All the talk about screening potential signings for vaccine scepticism, and we didn't check the guy's social media history?
I can see how it might fall down the cracks between departments but it needs to be someone's responsibility from right now. Markham's department are data analysts - it's not a huge leap to scrolling through Twitter, FB & Insta feeds.

He'll receive a ban and it won't be suspended. I expect it'll probably be four matches.

Just out of interest are the FA investigating the Wigan tweets that were dug up as well? I can’t recall their content but presumably it’s a default to look at any raised?

It’s not a football department issue. It’s a business HR issue. Markham and Evatt sorry but not their job.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 6:42 pmWe need to learn from this.
