Which bit? N'gog or Macheda?Bruce Rioja wrote:Does that not bring your 'a half a decent season' back into play though?

Not Barton vile little cnut, would even want us to lose with that wanker playing unless what Plymouth says goes and Robbo goes to town on him

How is it obvious? His goal record, for me, suggests that 'the kid's obviously shite'...David Lee's Hair wrote:Were not in the top dollar market though are we? Never said we would be.Bruce Rioja wrote:Which begs the question, DL'sH - who would you look to bring in? Peter Crouch for top dollar?
I guess the question is who is available, and at the right price.... Campbell is the right price, but for me personally, I'd rather us spend the £1.3m it'd costs for Campbell on the wages of a loanee, say Machada from ManUre... puts some of our fans in a difficult situation given the club he's from, but the kid's obviously class...

If Barton wanted to leave next summer, we'd presumably get a fee.
Newcastle's poor form in the second half of last season might not be put down to Barton, considering they had fewer strikers than we had central midfielders.
Macheda would love half a decent season. If he played for West Ham we'd be laughing at him.
Oh and in case anyone's bothered, two transfers of names mentioned here have gone through: Jonathan Spector to Birmingham and Zoltan Gera to WBA.

We were linked with Barton when Megson was manager, I believe Megson wanted to sign him, a few papers got hold of it, ran the story, the club were besieged with letters and emails from angry of Bolton, saying they didn't want Barton at our "family club".
We didn't sign him folk breathed a sigh of relief.
Funny how things change.........

I like Gera, he's a good player. But our game is mostly about width. He wouldn't offer us that. He's a decent attacking midfielder on the right of a narrow 4, but a winger he is notdrummergeek wrote:gera would have been a useful free especially after chungy

Hey Bish I'm not saying I agree or don't. Just saying what happened. If I recall correctly a poster on here had a phone conversation with Gartside at the time and asked him not to sign Barton (I may be remembering incorrectly!).thebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:We were linked with Barton when Megson was manager, I believe Megson wanted to sign him, a few papers got hold of it, ran the story, the club were besieged with letters and emails from angry of Bolton, saying they didn't want Barton at our "family club".

No of course not, it's far more likely that he's decided to say that, and lie, just for the sake of it.drummergeek wrote:and you believe that??Choppers wrote:Barton has officially stated he's willing to talk to ANY club, no matter what league they are in.drummergeek wrote:we won't get barton and i would be suprised if we had talked to him. Jeez. The guy isn't stupid, he knows he has a reputation, and that any club willing to take him on might have to consider that.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
The comparison to Joofy only works from one angle. As far as I'm aware Joofy never stubbed out a cigar in a team mates eye, never called the manager shit etc. etc.
If we assume for a minute that Joof and Barton's off field antics cancel each other out, with Barton, we'd still be left with a complete arsehole, capable of pulling the squad to bits, verbally or otherwise in one of his "famous" rants.
Can keep him anywhere but here for my money, but wouldn't be writing to Garty to "complain" if we were to sign him. Can't see why Coyle would want such a disruption in the dressing room though.
I can see why Megson or Allardyce might just think they were able to control him though (albeit misguidedly)

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Barton is a good player. Undoubtedly he'd improve us in midfield. However, the improvement overall would be marginal as with Pratley, Muamba, Reo-Coker, Holden, Mark Davies (and lets just leave out Sean Davis and the rest) we are much stronger in this area than anywhere else.
Where we are weakest in some sort of order, is up front, then out wide, then centre back. I imagine Coyle would have interest in Barton only if he could strengthen the other areas that are more pressing as well.
There is no point getting Barton as a moderate improvement over NRC or Holden, when spending similar could improve our front line mahooosively, or find a replacement for LCY or replace Cahill, if he ever goes.
Of course you want to go for "good players when they're available". But equally you want to build a squad with balance so that you are adaptable and also good enough in all areas to compete.
Sometimes, in fact probably a lot of the time, you have to say "good player, but not for us at this moment in time". For me that is the situation with Barton.

Indeed that's almost exactly what Coyle said of some of the swapsies offered for Cahill. except he'd probably say "good player, but not for this football club at this moment in time".BWFC_Insane wrote:Sometimes, in fact probably a lot of the time, you have to say "good player, but not for us at this moment in time". Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
You are that sure that Pratley is good enough? Realistically, known quantity wise we have: Muamba, Reo-Coker and *maybe* Mark Davies in the middle.BWFC_Insane wrote:However, the improvement overall would be marginal as with Pratley, Muamba, Reo-Coker, Holden, Mark Davies (and lets just leave out Sean Davis and the rest) we are much stronger in this area than anywhere else.
Pratley has looked good so far in pre-season, but Davies and Klasnic are scoring for fun too - reckon that'll have any baring on the actual league?
Ultimately though, we won't get Barton because we have a limited supply of money and we need a striker utterly desperately.

Not often I see folk on here quote George Orwell, as Barton did on Twitter this morning.
Not proof, but interesting.

Only as stupid as Diouf imho, who I think is just as vile a character.
