Re: COVID-19/20 season

FIFA has extended the season indefinitely. This season will finish, somehow and somewhen, then the next one will take place. I don't buy how this kills lower league clubs. Is it something to do with 5G masts?

Re: COVID-19/20 season

UEFA now threatening Belgian clubs with expulsion from European competition next season (whenever the hell that is) because they unilaterally declared this season over. PL/EPL/FA/PFA again declare their full intention to finish this season. It's going to happen, and next season will be shorter in so...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

Nothing before the 30th April now at the earliest. ...which means our first game might be at Oxford, Prufrock... (Except I doubt we'll be allowed out.) In other moves: from their side, FIFA are happy to relax the "June 30" contract-ending rules, to allow potential flexibility to finish seasons. The...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

Was listening to Rishi Sunak yesterday evening announcing his 350 billion war chest. Much of this will be used to help prop up sectors whose incomes have fallen of a cliff - chiefly leisure, catering and entertainment. Do we think this might also extend to football clubs? If they're paying any atte...

Re: FV Recruitment Model

Morning all, here's a freebie to pass some minutes and build your knowledge. We're told that we're looking at more of a Brentford model - hence the culling of the U23s. If you're not quite sure what that means - and there's nothing wrong with that, I'll certainly stand in that queue with you - here'...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

We don’t - but the level of player we have, I don’t see anyone walking off to join a club with plenty of cash put it that way. True, Dibs. However, to looks principally Darcy and Politic fer nowt will be particularly galling. To be clear, Politic is under contract until June 2022, but I know what y...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

Why should we pay will Buckley beyond June/July? Evidently some level of compromise will be needed. I can imagine under the above circumstances there'd be plenty of people p*ssed off if, say, Daryl Murphy or Ronan Darcy decided to walk away in June rather than August. There were certainly a lot of ...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

I think the football calendar will prove to be quite flexible; it's just a matter of how soon clubs can get back training and playing matches behind closed doors. The problem I can't immediately think of a proper solution to is the expiry of the players' contracts one. The common sense approach wou...

Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.

Surely, as part of the negotiations on our part we can point to the likes of Luca Connell who isn't even making the Celtic bench. Other than for Holding, have any of our youngsters gone on to do anything of note? Ilesy asked this the other day on the liveblog, although it was more The Ones That Got...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

Making the season null and void then would be less controversial than declaring the current placings the final position and promoting and relegating all those that occupy the relevant places now. Would it? Would it really? Given the ongoing hoo-haa over our punishment, you think clubs deleteriously...

Aye, would only take 1 own goal to scupper that 1ppg target.
At least we'd be able to kick off if we conceded. But I don't fancy our chances of being able to retain possession, stay onside and not knock it off for a throw or goal kick...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

Miles, miles more chance of legal trouble if they just end the season now than if they cook up some other method and push that through. Whatever happens will be a bodge job, but it doesn't have to be a botch job too. By "least impact on League" you appear to be ignoring the possibility of them getti...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

I don't think they could declare the season null and void. As a minor thing, what do they do with playing records etc? What they could do is abandon the season and call it finished as-is; there'd be a gap for cup winners etc – imagine the legal fights over prize money unawarded, to go with the ones ...

Re: FV Recruitment Model

This could be the end of the season as we know it. What happens should this be the case will be a headache for the PL & EFL. Some clubs will simply not survive. I firmly believe Uefa, Fifa and other footballing bodies could call an end to all competitions and declare them void. What will happen sho...

COVID-19/20 season

Understandably this topic is popping up all over the threads so I thought it might be sensible to combine it in one (on here, at least), dealing with the BWFC/football effects. For future historians: on this fair Friday morning, the EFL and EPL (and UEFA) finally bowed to the almost inevitable and p...
