While I remain far from convinced on Reid, there are caveats to a couple of his roles.

At Leeds, he took over temporarily when they were going out of business, kept them up, was given a contract and then told to sell more players; not many managers would succeed under those conditions.

At Plymouth, he was also in charge of a skint sinking ship. They'd just dropped from tier two when he was appointed; they then had trouble with our friends at the tax office, sold their best players, went into administration, were docked 10 points and dropped again. They had so little money they couldn't pay the youth team or the heating bills, so Reid did, auctioning off medals to do so. He was sacked by Peter Ridsdale with the Pligrims bottom of the entire league, prompting sympathetic pieces in the Guardian and Telegraph, and this piece sums up the fans' high regard for him.

Doesn't mean he's a great manager, or the right choice, but I think the PPGs thebish mentions should be put in context.

Aye I don't think his record is much worse than many we'd be likely to appoint.

The problem is he's done nothing of much relevance for a long time, is associated with outdated methods and techniques, especially man-management wise and has a reputation for playing fairly basic football.

We're going into a fairly basic league but must get the best out of the likes of Clough if he's still here and I'd question if Reid was the right man for that.

If we had the money to go and sign some experienced battling pro's we'd be able to go and get a better manager than Reid I suspect.
