There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Italians no great shakes again Irish. Dead Italians all over the field and the ref just let them off for a blatant pen. Martin O'Neil not entirely amused. 0-0 half time.

Tony Pulis is different class. Sweden are defending with "spacemen". Kallstrom has an "attractive run up" + one of the best players of the best ever generation is "Zaltan". Outstanding.

Watching Belgium Sweden as I'd rather gouge my eyes out than watch Italy when I don't have to.

Many parallels between Zlatan and Ronaldo. Both geniuses on a different plane to their teammates, both running out our major tournaments, both have a reputation fire phenomenal arrogance.

Every time Ibrahimovic has done something class and a teammate has fecked it up he's been encouraging and calling, not stopped giving it then our trying to play as a team. C.f. Ronaldo!

Peru, Peru.....

Cracking result for the Republic. Never gave up trying, and should have scored two minuted before they did. Love anybody beating Italy although I like Buffon. Gradely stuff..

Superb cross, run and header for Eire's goal. Well chuffed for 'em.

Maybe you know, but the joke was a throw-back to 1974? World Cup when Peru prevented Scotland getting beyond the first round.

Interesting games in the last 16. Ireland could give France a game I reckon if they can find some energy before Sunday. Seems a bit unfair that some teams play Wednesday, Sunday and others they face played Monday.

The Guinness will be flowing back in the Emerald Isle tonight and a lot of sore heads tomorrow. What an entertaining comp this is turning out to be. Iceland and the Republic the toast of the day.

I guessed it was. 1978 - Ally's Army and all that.

The strange thing, perhaps, is that Roy Hodgson spent the day in Paris but chose not to make a personal check on the team who will be trying to inflict ignominy upon England in Nice on Monday. Hodgson had caught the train from Chantilly into Gare de Nord and, according to the Football Association, went sightseeing with his assistant, Ray Lewington. Yet the England manager decided against going to Iceland’s game against Austria at Stade de France, passing up the opportunity to see for himself his side’s next opponents.
Well that's clever!

Any chance we might actually win?
Think we will beat Iceland, yes.
But we can't create chances and score goals vs teams that sit back.

Apparently they had a special feed set up where he could watch both games and also choose camera angles etc...he sent staff to both games.

I don't like Hodgson but can't blame him for deciding to watch both games in the hotel using the UEFA live technical feed considering he may have ended up going to a game for no reason as easily we could have ended up with a country from the other game.

True. But I think if we sneak an early goal the game will be easy. If we don't then as you say it could be frustrating but still think we've got enough to win it.

Round after...not so much.

We'll either scrape through or be embarrassed. If we did manage a convincing win we'd only go out on penalties after a dire game next round.

It'll soften the blow if Eidur scores the winner for Iceland though. ;)
