Ooh, in other news we might get a bit of butty if Arsenal cut their losses and sell Holding to Burnley. BN:

I said that on the face of it, it seemed a reasonable deal. I've not seen him play so can't judge.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:38 amPretty similar to Madine's hit-rate before this season: 61 in 282 league appearances. His previous seasons at this level had totalled 11 goals in 104 appearances, up to the age of 25 or so (Walker is 21). Walker has averaged a goal every 349 minutes at this level; Madine has averaged one every 352 minutes (before this season it was one every 447 minutes).
Obviously I'm not saying he's better than Madine but considering how much emphasis has been placed on The Other Elements Of Gaz's Game I'm surprised to see you roll out a developing kid's strike rate as a stick to beat him with.
Like you say, you haven't seen him much so you don't know, and neither do I, but you never know, chuck, he might actually be good.
(Anyway I thought we were back under embargo, definitely, heard it from a bloke who knows a bloke at the club?)
I just think describing it as a good or great window is a bit premature. Lets get them in first (long way till the deadline tomorrow) and then lets see what they offer. Armstrong was meant to be a great signing but he definitely wasn't.....

Iles now saying a third and fourth bid. Obviously they're panicking. No bad thing.palindromeofbolton wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:41 amReports that a third bid's come in from Cardiff for Madine.

It is if we sell him. We're absolutely fecked if we do. For the first time ever I might actually stop going to games in that scenario.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:44 amIles now saying a third and fourth bid. The only way they can sell him is if they go and buy a replacement who is proven at this level and offers the same sort of game as Madine with goals and the ability to lead the line. And someone under 32 years of age.
Otherwise it will be the most miserable second half of season on record.

Which is fair enough, but without premature discussion forums like this would be dead. You're entitled to your right to hold your assessment till after the deadline, but Brizzle's just said what he thinks would make a good window, and discussions like that will fill a lot of time between now and then...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:43 amI just think describing it as a good or great window is a bit premature. For instance, what would you define as a successful window?

Keeping the current squad as is. With perhaps offloading the unwanted like Jem (I like him but Parky clearly doesn't). Adding in a powerful midfield player who can run and perhaps offers more than Darren - ideally a buy. Adding a backup centre half on loan. A backup for Madine on loan - Walker is fine I guess. Chungy would potentially add quality.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:47 amWhich is fair enough, but without premature discussion forums like this would be dead. That would for me be a good window. I think the key positions are up front and in midfield, myself.

Again with the hyperbole, dude: it's like you're in a race to overstate yourself, even when it's not necessary. I completely agree that we'd need to replace Madine or face a very very hard struggle, and that said replacement would be far from easy to find. But if Cardiff are already panicking, and Bolton are letting that be known, then it sounds like an auction's in the offing and we might actually get some cash to spend.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:46 amIt is if we sell him. Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Fair enough. I agree with almost all of that: flog Jem (and others) if unwanted; get a viable alternative anchorman; borrow a (fast) centre-back and a target man. I'm also worried about our left flank, but Chungy might be an unexpectedly good answer to that problem.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:50 amKeeping the current squad as is. Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Having scraped ourselves from oblivion to "having half a chance" it would be totally miserable to chuck it away for some £££. As practical as I know that would be, you and I know we'd not replace Gaz effectively. You need someone who is playing week in week out and in form, ready to come in. We're not going to do that. We'd get some premiership reserve who takes 6 weeks to get to sharpness and then by the time they hit form its too late.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:52 amAgain with the hyperbole, dude: it's like you're in a race to overstate yourself, even when it's not necessary. EDIT: He's scored or created ~60% of our goals this season. Good luck replacing that without spending tens of millions of pounds.

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
I'll say again, I'd rather not sell him. But it's quite possible that if we reject bids he'll lose faith and form. If we are going to receive bids, I'd rather they be high. That's why it's no bad thing that Cardiff are said to be upping their ante by the hour, and that this news will doubtless be reaching the ears of other suitors.
I'll say once again, I'd rather not sell him. But I'd much more vehemently rather not sell him for say £3m than auction him for closer to £10m. I know it risks relegation, and that's the main thing in the medium term. But having a disenchanted player is also a big risk. The genie may well be out of the bottle.

Nixon now reporting a move for Feyenoord striker Michiel Kramer. If that, somehow, happened as a straight replacement to Madine going, I'd feel better...

Iles says we're "holding firm", and I'm not surprised, considering he says their second bid (ie before today) only came to £1.5m. They can f*ck right off. Colin's also been spouting off about putting in bids for four different strikers.

6ft 5in, but has played at No.10 and on the wing as well as (obvz) up top. Scored 42 in 123 top-flight games. All told he's scored 23 in 71 for Feyenoord – no small club – since his £1m move from ADO in 2015, but this Christmas they fined him for eating a butty at half-time.
Iles: "Michiel Kramer link doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Would be surprised at this juncture if it is a replacement for Madine, though."

Yep, very true. I'm guessing if he won't sign a new deal here we'll sell him. Which would be a shame.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:15 pmI'll say again, I'd rather not sell him. It would still be ultimately depressing whatever the reasoning.
In the summer, if he keeps us up....selling for a decent amount would make a lot of sense all round.

His off-field antics certainly don't seem to match up to Madine's.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:29 pmInteresting.palindromeofbolton wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:18 pmNixon now reporting a move for Feyenoord striker Michiel Kramer. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football ... ch-eating/FEYENOORD have suspended Michiel Kramer after he was caught eating a roll and a croquette at half time during a Dutch Cup clash.
The 29-year-old striker was spotted scoffing the meal during the home fixture against Heracles that his side won 3-1.

Played 8 games this season. Isn't used to English football. He could be brilliant for all I know. But my gut tells me its unlikely he'll come in and hit the ground running with the required workrate, intensity and goalscoring.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:29 pmInteresting.palindromeofbolton wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:18 pmNixon now reporting a move for Feyenoord striker Michiel Kramer. We shall see. I cannot see our interest in him being anything other than an indication Madine is likely on his way, but we shall see. If we got him as better backup than Wilbraham that might be interesting. But seems unlikely thus far.

There's nothing to say if we hang onto Madine we'll not get the sulky half arsed version back for the remainder of the season.
As for not going again if we sell him...sheesh

Madine is a very important player for us but is now in a good position to negotiate. Will boil down to whether he wants to stay based on what we can afford vs what he can get elsewhere. Every player has a price and Cardiff may be desperate enough to offer that price to us. If so be the case, we will have 1 day to spend it effectively.

As an aside, I'm quite used to transfer fees being very high but the eyebrows still arch involuntarily when Forest turn down £12m from Burnley for Joe Worrall and Fulham eschew £18m from West Ham for Tom Cairney.

Which is why Madine is 10M plus. And that fee in this market is not in any way ridiculous.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 1:42 pmAs an aside, I'm quite used to transfer fees being very high but the eyebrows still arch involuntarily when Forest turn down £12m from Burnley for Joe Worrall and Fulham eschew £18m from West Ham for Tom Cairney.
IN THIS MARKET, before anyone goes mental.
