Obviously jinxing him but Curran's batting must give him a shout given our fallibilities further up.

Does that apply even if you demolish the stumps. So you don't appeal and our trundler stays in while the bails are replaced?

I mean presumably at that point he might walk!

Yep, flat track benign conditions and our number 10 punished Ireland. Then gets a little sticky just a little swing and bang whole batting order collapses.

What we've learned - Roy will be frustrating but at least has the ability to ask questions. Curran is a better batsman than Moeen Ali. But then I think I might be currently better than Ali.

Too many are off form - Root - what the hell? Burns is a total disaster right now - cannot, I repeat cannot start with him next week.

Bairstow is in a slump. Probably WC related.

Be an interesting day today - Ireland will be favourites but if we bowl well I suspect if we can get to 200 it will make challenging target for what they will feel is a pressure innings - first test win at Lords...big moment for them. Also a test for Woakes/Broad/Curran bowling under pressure. Not all three will play assuming Jimmy is back and Jofra comes back into contention.

Yeah winning or losing is irrelevant the test batting problem remains. I agree with Vaughan that it is mentality. They've prioritised ODI cricket but I also think more significantly they just aren't very good at test batting. Technically they aren't up to it. Root is - sure he makes stupid mistakes but he has technique. The rest I'm not sure about - they individually need to find ways to play innings that are required. Roy for example - would be stupid to expect him to become Boycott but he has to find ways to stick around when the ball is moving. Can't always chase the loose ones if there is something in the pitch or air. Pick his moments. He should still be aggressive but find a way through. Same with Bairstow etc...
