6 wickets in under 70 runs...We are truly shite at batting when it requires a modicum of discipline.

Make that 7 in under 80...
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Just seen Root's. Lord above. That would be bad if he was on 250 with us 500-2. Good. Grief.
We need you to anchor this through Joe.
So a lazy wander down the track and wristy wafty flap then?
Cheers, skip.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Obviously jinxing him but Curran's batting must give him a shout given our fallibilities further up.

From the depths of my mind I seem to remember once reading that you can't be given out without an appeal?
Does that apply even if you demolish the stumps. So you don't appeal and our trundler stays in while the bails are replaced?
I mean presumably at that point he might walk!

It is quite amusing when the dude is obviously out, umpire has raised the finger and they're walking back to the hut, and you point out to the umpire that they better call them back because you didn't appeal...Prufrock wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 5:57 pmHa. Just arrived at the Oval to watch my 2nd ever cricket match in 43 years on this earth. Free ticket (obviously) but then realised it's delayed by rain. Have no time for sports that can't be played in the rain. Soft c*nts.
And yes, I have been drinking all afternoon. On my own.

Watching Paint Dry is another sport quite often interrupted by rain. (well at least in the classic version, since they've introduced one day limited coats indoor internationals, not so much so...)LeverEnd wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 7:06 pmJust arrived at the Oval to watch my 2nd ever cricket match in 43 years on this earth. Sunshine, kindle and beers make me happy not sad!
Saw a hat trick, a fox run in the field and have a shit, and Glamorgan bowled out for 44.
Still not my cup of tea though.

Yep, flat track benign conditions and our number 10 punished Ireland. Then gets a little sticky just a little swing and bang whole batting order collapses.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 5:13 pm6 wickets in under 70 runs...We are truly shite at batting when it requires a modicum of discipline.
What we've learned - Roy will be frustrating but at least has the ability to ask questions. Curran is a better batsman than Moeen Ali. But then I think I might be currently better than Ali.
Too many are off form - Root - what the hell? Burns is a total disaster right now - cannot, I repeat cannot start with him next week.
Bairstow is in a slump. Probably WC related.
Be an interesting day today - Ireland will be favourites but if we bowl well I suspect if we can get to 200 it will make challenging target for what they will feel is a pressure innings - first test win at Lords...big moment for them. Also a test for Woakes/Broad/Curran bowling under pressure. Not all three will play assuming Jimmy is back and Jofra comes back into contention.

Bairstow is in a much longer Test slump alongside root - last couple of years Roots gone from averaging 50 to 35ish and Bairstow is somewhere in the 20's I think I read from Michael Vaughan yesterday...and they're our "saviours"...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2019 9:53 amYep, flat track benign conditions and our number 10 punished Ireland. We could still win this game, but nothing in that would change how shit we've batted.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Keep reading this would be in the top 4 4thb innings Lords chases ever.
I mean, fine, but I'm not sure many have started in the morning of Day 3!

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Yeah winning or losing is irrelevant the test batting problem remains. I agree with Vaughan that it is mentality. They've prioritised ODI cricket but I also think more significantly they just aren't very good at test batting. Technically they aren't up to it. Root is - sure he makes stupid mistakes but he has technique. The rest I'm not sure about - they individually need to find ways to play innings that are required. Roy for example - would be stupid to expect him to become Boycott but he has to find ways to stick around when the ball is moving. Can't always chase the loose ones if there is something in the pitch or air. Pick his moments. He should still be aggressive but find a way through. Same with Bairstow etc...Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2019 10:50 amBairstow is in a much longer Test slump alongside root - last couple of years Roots gone from averaging 50 to 35ish and Bairstow is somewhere in the 20's I think I read from Michael Vaughan yesterday...and they're our "saviours"...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2019 9:53 amYep, flat track benign conditions and our number 10 punished Ireland.
