Fossey apparently turned down other offers to come here, including from MLS. Fair play to the kid.

Also the Irish jouno chatter is that Doyle to Pats is done and just waiting on us to green light it. The assumption being that we need one in first.
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Makes sense. Clearly Evatt/Markham think Doyle is on the decline and were probably thinking of moving him on in summer anyway. This seems like St Pat's have sniffed an opportunity to get ahead of the game and bring him back home.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 11:12 pmAlso the Irish jouno chatter is that Doyle to Pats is done and just waiting on us to green light it. Whilst I'm not terribly saddened to see him go, I do think it's a bit of a risk to be going into the second half of the season with both our strikers being brand new to the club and Evatt's system.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Actually, I did just have an Antoine de Caunes sneak peek. Blimey.
I guess for me personally I need to understand that that the pre-injury Crawford simply no longer exists, which is very sad indeed.

Might see Doyle staying given the very real possibility now that Charles could suffer League action over these old tweets that are surfacing (assuming they're genuine). There's precedent for bans for historic racist and homophobic comments.

Not seen these tweets but if as described above then the club need to be far better at due diligence. First thing we do nowadays is check these things. It’s poor if this hasn’t been done.

Whereas I generally agree, responsibility ultimately lies with the individual, principley not to make feck* remarks, but also to tidy up (or even close down) their social media accounts, no?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 12:47 pmNot seen these tweets but if as described above then the club need to be far better at due diligence. Am I right in thinking that these have come to light from an oddly obsessed Wigan fan or is there another source?
Either way this isn't good.

It’s basically Wigan v Bolton in trying to dig up offensive tweets of players past. Absolute bell ends.

Yeah, someone hasn't done their job properly or the process is totally wrong. Either way, we as fans and a club can't complain now if he does get banned. If it happened at another club we'd acknowledge the need of it and if Charles is guilty of it he should face disciplinary action.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 12:47 pmNot seen these tweets but if as described above then the club need to be far better at due diligence. These are old tweets, he may have matured now and learnt the error of his ways; but it will still require action. The days of waving stuff like this away have thankfully long passed.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Of course but we are talking about an expensive asset and it’s not been checked/cleaned. I don’t think in 2021 a business such as a football club should be spending resources on valuable assets without the short of due diligence that would uncover these issues. Personally. I’m sure going forwards they will do this.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 12:53 pmWhereas I generally agree, responsibility ultimately lies with the individual, principley not to make feck* remarks, but also to tidy up (or even close down) their social media accounts, no?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 12:47 pmNot seen these tweets but if as described above then the club need to be far better at due diligence. Yeah, the people doing it don't give a shit about racism or homophobia, they are just looking the damage the other team. Some are tweeting about how much they love it. Doesn't change the situation, though.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 1:07 pmIt’s basically Wigan v Bolton in trying to dig up offensive tweets of players past. Absolute bell ends.
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
They're...not good.
From what I've seen there's some pretty nasty racism and homophobia, from when he was about 16-18. Andre Gray got 4 games for similar when he was 20.
Social media is a cesspit for things like this. Currently Wigan fans trying to find anything on our players, and Bolton fans trying to find anything on theirs. Jamie Jones and Charlie Wyke will be in trouble too.
Hard agree that somebody in this day and age should be checking this.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
From what I can gather, he also tweeted something in the past about how awful the Wigan accent is. A Bolton fan dug that up and starting trolling Wigan fans with it, leading to Wigan fans trawling to see what else he'd said and coming up with this.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
I think you're right people need to be consistent, but there have been a range of views when it has come up elsewhere. I think it's difficult. On the one hand you can't do nothing, but I also think it's grossly unfair to punish a 26yo for something they said when they were 16. Age, severity, remorse should all be factors, it's hard to come up with a policy to apply, IMO.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 1:10 pmYeah, someone hasn't done their job properly or the process is totally wrong. Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
There's no way Bolton would have let him keep those tweets up if they'd have checked his account, so it does smack of poor due diligence.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
I've had this as part of my job before. A club of Bolton's size should be outsourcing it to a media/PR firm. The don't have the staff numbers to do it properly for every member of staff in all departments.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
They shouldn't have recruited him having found them, without working with the league and player to work out an agreement on the consequences. Sweeping them under the rug is also a PR disaster waiting to happen.
If they don't now go into crisis-management mode and go through everyone's history (a PR company should be in now) they are mad. The club also needs to be the one to contact the league and their legal reps need to be figuring out a case based on regs. Their PR lot needs to be working on strategy too.
