Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Yes, but they are essentially the football HR department. As I say, I dunno, but if someone's gotta check it and we've already got a room full of laptop-poring data-checkers, it makes sense to me for them to do it from now on. Not saying it's their fault as clearly nobody saw this coming.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 6:56 pmIt’s not a football department issue. It’s a business HR issue. Markham and Evatt sorry but not their job.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 6:42 pmWe need to learn from this. All the talk about screening potential signings for vaccine scepticism, and we didn't check the guy's social media history?
I can see how it might fall down the cracks between departments but it needs to be someone's responsibility from right now. Markham's department are data analysts - it's not a huge leap to scrolling through Twitter, FB & Insta feeds.

Character and personality of protentional signings is absolutely the recruitment department's job.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 6:56 pmIt’s not a football department issue. It’s a business HR issue. Markham and Evatt sorry but not their job.

In terms of are they a lad who will knuckle down and work hard and fit in etc. Not digging through historic tweets. That’s an HR or recruitment role. Probably via an agency.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 7:03 pmCharacter and personality of protentional signings is absolutely the recruitment department's job.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 6:56 pmIt’s not a football department issue. Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Ordinarily, as a recruitment team, you would request stuff from other departments (if that's how it was divided up). In the Prem we had people in the recruitment team with that specific job, but even lower down the leagues the recruitment team should have had that information in hand regardless of source. Nobody should have gone to the board without that done. This isn't like a bank interviewing a clerk.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 7:20 pmIn terms of are they a lad who will knuckle down and work hard and fit in etc. Not digging through historic tweets. This is the same as outsourcing it. It's the recruitment team who would request the external agency made the checks. Part of that is to keep leaks to a minimum but it's also just standard practice.

Back onto transfers…probably need a thread on our soon to be banned new signing….
Cole Stockton would offer us something different up top but there is no way we would ply to his strengths.

We fancy 350k for Charles with 6 months on his deal but not 500k for Stockton with 18 months on his?Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 10:15 pmRead summat, somewhere today saying we didn't fancy £500k for him...
It's bold, I'll say that.

Charles will be £300k based on him playing in x, scoring y and us being promoted. Not sure on the first two but the thirds not happening! Stockton will I suspect be £500k to us now. He’s not an Evatt player I think. Wonder who the other striker is - a good version of Bakayoko would be nice.

We don't know that and it's not what has been suggested in the reporting.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 10:23 pmCharles will be £300k based on him playing in x, scoring y and us being promoted.
I think people are trying to make sense of the fee, but ultimately it looks like we've paid at least the bulk of it to get him. Accrington certainly seem pleased with their end of the deal and their guy isn't a mug on the finances.
Iles' reporting is that we are also forking out more fees to secure players. Will be interesting to see how much those are reported at.

I think Iles claimed it was a £320,000 fee paid in installments rather than being conditional on clauses being met but he (or I) could be wrong.
I find it hard to believe Morecambe would allow Stockton to leave for the rumoured £500,000 fee. He's surely worth much more to them than that?

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Evatt (and the club's leading interview questions) would seem to be saying we expect more in before the weekend game - so will be interesting to see what we do.
The squad clearly needs a lift.
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
£500k would be a lot of cash for Morecambe, but yeah, I would think that would be the absolute minimum they would accept for Stockton. For us, it wouldn't make sense to be paying that kind of money for a soon to be 28 year old.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 10:27 pmofficer_dibble wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 10:23 pmCharles will be £300k based on him playing in x, scoring y and us being promoted. Let's hope the next signing is a central midfielder, because on the evidence of last night that's clearly our biggest area of need.

Hard to argue with his assist in the Hartlepool game.

I've had a problem for some time now with Evatt's apparent afterthought approach to the GK position.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:45 amHard to argue with his assist in the Hartlepool game.

Worst thing is we haven’t even got a replacement - Gilks has clearly retired so Dixon plays every week. There is nobody there to knock on the managers door and say I should be playing, not this clown!

Indeed, however, when I've raised it previously I usually get met with an Evatt-esque 'not our area of greatest concern', which may be true, but it's definitely an area of concern.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:50 amI think most of us have.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:50 amI've had a problem for some time now with Evatt's apparent afterthought approach to the GK position.

Both sides are right there, I think. We can stay up with Dixon, but we definitely can't go up with him - not unless he has a level we're yet to see.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 10:02 amIndeed, however, when I've raised it previously I usually get met with an Evatt-esque 'not our area of greatest concern', which may be true, but it's definitely an area of concern.
Evatt is consistently taking the cheap option. I think that's because, ultimately, he's arrogant enough to think his side shouldn't need a top 'keeper. Hope I'm wrong, but it's how it seems.
