We could get beat by "an innings and", with the oppo having scored less than 300...

Boland is the man of the match.
Boland? Is England trying to figure out how you win a test match.

Silverwood just claimed in his post-match interview there are "positives coming out of this". I can only assume he was referring to the touring group's lateral flow tests.

The positive might be that he gets sacked……nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:45 amSilverwood just claimed in his post-match interview there are "positives coming out of this". I can only assume he was referring to the touring group's lateral flow tests.

Well, that was disappointing.
Maybe BWFC_Insane is right after all? Boland was a revelation or the England bats appalling. I am still trying to figure out which.

We’ve managed the workload of Anderson, Wood and Robinson so they’ll be fresh for Sydney. All part of the 2 year plan.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:45 amSilverwood just claimed in his post-match interview there are "positives coming out of this". Our batting is historically bad. It’s on another level. Here they’ve come up against good quick accurate bowling and have just been blown apart.

I think it's a little more deep-rooted than that. Don't you?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 8:14 am
I come back to our batsmen are lazy and don’t deserve any excuse.
Where's county cricket's incentive to produce test players?
The more the onus at local level lies with producing batsmen who can smack it into the carpark in a short overs game in front of a full house and the tv cameras, the less clubs will give a fig about teaching aspiring players to patiently pick off the bad ball.
Face it, if you were on the board/staff of say Leicestershire, Grace Road will never be on the test circuit, so why train players to play the game in a way which is of no benefit, detrimental even, to your club? You'll lose them anyway if they do start to look like a test cricketer.

Agree Brucie, I also think County Championship isn't strong enough/fit enough...Pope averaged 78, Malan 73...you'd expect that to translate into nailed on 40+ average in tests...then there a whole list of 40+ county championship averaging failures...
Our third highest test run scorer in 2021? Extras on 412...

I absolutely agree. The whole system is a problem. But it doesn’t excuse the current lot from continually making the same mistakes, and just being allowed to carry on doing so. Where is the effort to transform themselves into batsmen who can do jobs in test cricket?Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 4:26 pmI think it's a little more deep-rooted than that. They might not be good enough but they aren’t as bad as losing to an innings and with a score of under 300 on the board. The lack of application annoys me. They aren’t and weren’t ever beating Australia or even coming close. But we just surrender. You see someone like Buttler who clearly isn’t test match quality has worked so hard to try and have some resistance in his batting. Sure It’s not his game. But at least he’s tried to transition. I see the rest and they just look like they can’t be bothered. The Silverwood tells us there are positives after drubbing number 3. It’s lazy. The one day side had failures and people started to do something about it and not just ‘accepting it’. Yet here at every level people don’t want to address the issues in the last half decade that have left us with an embarrassing test side. People just want to pretend it’s not happening.
Including the current players and coaching.

Or not as the case might be...we've got half a chance of not being in our second inning on day 2 here...

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
We've got to be fairly happy with that start, haven't we?
Well, let's put it another way; there'd be no shortage of criticism if we were 126-3 after Day One.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Particularly given from the morning session I saw it did absolutely nothing.
Forecast rain again today (or is it tomorrow?. Tonight, anyway) and Day 5. Think it's going to all come down to whether we can bat properly in our first innings. If we do I'd give us a good chance of a glorious draw!

It's not unreasonable Brucie. We'd get criticism at 126-3, because that's highly likely to head towards 180 all out...on a good dayBruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:47 amWe've got to be fairly happy with that start, haven't we?
