If true it would suggest Evatt wants two targets in the box as an option. With Baka, Bod and Collins that would potentially change the dynamics of the side and perhaps be a clue as to how we’d cope without the dynamism Fossey offers in having players we can ping crosses at from a wider variety of positions.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 3:39 pmNixon is linking Derby and Bolton to James Collins at Cardiff. Proper centre forward at this level. Scores a variety of goals, bullies defenders and generally is a menace. It's Nixon, so make of that what you will; but at this level the lad is a player. 1 in 3 in the Championship and 1 in 2 at this level. Also tends to pop up with a few assists, but it's a case of lay-offs rather than playmaking type stuff. Very much a League One Alan Shearer type, which should please a few.

Parky wasn’t much for two up front.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:43 pmKeeping the dream of Parkyball alive.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:08 pmIf true it would suggest Evatt wants two targets in the box as an option. If anything I’m keeping the Rioch blueprint alive.

Baka is half and half to be fair. He's big but he's not much use in the air.
Would suggest we're pretty committed to two up top though. Given we're outside the pessimism thread does that mean we're still confident on Marlon?

Yeah Baka half and half for sure. He gets in good positions in the box though to feed off crosses and knock downs.
I guess really what I meant is what you’ve said we look like we want two up front. And I guess having more traditional strikers gives you the option of focussing more on delivery from wing backs than pace in behind.

I said around the time, and still say, that whoever came in for Clough / Vela needed to take them as a pair.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 6:58 pm
Clough. Look what’s happened to him. Enough said. Prospects that don’t have what it takes.

In fairness the trio of Clough, Vela and Ameobi that played behind Madine that first season were outstanding. Probably the perfect 3 in a 4231. At least for league one.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 9:59 amI said around the time, and still say, that whoever came in for Clough / Vela needed to take them as a pair.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 6:58 pm

In the absence of any tangible transfer news, here’s a list of attacking midfielders I quite like

Fascinating as ever, Brommers.
Of those, Tony Evans looks the standout to these eyes.

Good stuff again, Brommers.
I know after our formation shift last season we never really found a perfect option in the ‘10’ role, but, assuming full fitness, would Sheehan, Lee and Dapo not be quite a decent mix there?

Not sure Dapo worked well there. Sheehan is he fit for start of season? Seen a few suggestions not. Lee will be a bit plus but we can’t expect him to play week in week out.
I think the most likely there is Sadlier.
Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
Dapo is ok as a back-up option there, but clearly is best as a left-sided forward. Lee’s recent history suggests he should also be viewed as a back-up.
Sheehan is the one I thought would be first choice, and for me looks a good fit for that role. I had it in my head that he’d be fit for the start of the season, but is that not the case?

Individual opinion and all that, but is it not a little harsh to suggest that Crawford "flattered to deceive "?
He was our best player until his injury against City's kids, from which he's never truly recovered, ultimately ended his career with us.

To be honest I’d completely forgotten about his injury in the trophy game - my comment was based purely on his performances since Evatt took charge which did leave a lot to be desired.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 7:48 amIndividual opinion and all that, but is it not a little harsh to suggest that Crawford "flattered to deceive "?

Brommers, what do you think of the rumoured James Collins interest? Think he’d fit?

Lee was first choice till his injury. And definitely our most impressive player in that role to date. He was key to many of our best performances.The_Gun wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 7:43 amDapo is ok as a back-up option there, but clearly is best as a left-sided forward. Sheehan might be fit for August but a few I’ve seen have suggested not and Isgrove is apparently not going to make it either. EDIT: Just read Iles analysis of what positions we need to recruit for and in that he states Sheehan expected back ‘by the end of the year’. So likely does miss a substantial chunk. Certainly wouldn’t have him in planning yet.

Indeed they did. I willed him to get back to his previous form, but ultimately we'd moved on and he was never going to get up to the level required.brommers95 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 8:35 amTo be honest I’d completely forgotten about his injury in the trophy game - my comment was based purely on his performances since Evatt took charge which did leave a lot to be desired.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 7:48 amIndividual opinion and all that, but is it not a little harsh to suggest that Crawford "flattered to deceive "?

Wasn't too excited when I saw the link to be honest. While he works hard off the ball and is a good poacher-type, I'm not sure why we'd use a vital squad space on bringing in another forward on a short-term basis, especially one that's 31 and on high wages at Cardiff.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 9:13 amBrommers, what do you think of the rumoured James Collins interest? Better long-term prospects out there for me.

Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
I saw a tweet tonight claiming we are signing Nathan Bishop, a young goalkeeper from Manchester United, on a season-long loan.
It was only one tweet and I would normally just ignore it, but:
1. The person tweeting was a Mansfield Town supporter, the club Bishop played for last season
2. His Twitter account seems genuine (as opposed to the innumerable bullshit transfer rumour merchants) and it would seem a strange thing to make up
3. He (Bishop) at first glance appears to fit the mould; young, England youth international, local, currently at a "big club", ready to step up to the third tier
4. I think, but stand to be corrected, we might've been linked with him last season
Perhaps there's something in it?
