One of the comments about Mark Robins exiting Coventry. "The fact that Robins bought more attackers in the summer but neglected to fix the engine room was a baffling failure in a league as physical and intense as the Championship" Not sure that only applies in the Championship TBF.
Didn’t we address that with Matete?

Not that I've seen so far. Our MF has looked overall "shakier" than last year, we're leaky as fcuk and I'd be surprised if we'd scored as many per game, do you think it's improved?

It's all changed and still is doing. I reckon a few more surprises will emerge as we play those we haven't yet seen. We'll need a bit of "any which way but loose" as our mission statement. . :oyea:

‘Dunno’ is my considered answer :D

Judging off the first few games of the season I’d be inclined to agree with you, but lately things seem to have improved. Matete is definitely the most athletic ball winning type we’ve had in a long while, so I’m optimistic that he should be a nice compliment to Sheehan and Thomason going forward.

Pretty much where I'm at. It's not a poor L1 midfield. It wasn't a poor L1 midfield last season. I'm not sure it's a MF that gets us in the autos.

We've got a table-topping midfielder, but he's out on loan.... :D

Matete at his best definitely adds another dimension. He's been promoted three times and while he didn't exactly do that single-handedly like Maradona in Mexico, he's certainly got something. He started slowly but they all did. Maybe the content download was buffering. Certainly looked that way with the early 3-4-2-1.

The problem in midfield is now a lack of depth with Tomo and Dempsey out. When they're back, with Sheehan and Matete and possibly Morley (who's still the closest Sheehan comparison, although I get that not everyone likes that), that's a decent centre-midfield selection. (I'm afraid I still don't get what an Arfield is.)

The summer spending seems lopsided, but we did lose two fairly regular strikers in Bod and Jerome and only really added one (McAtee). The RWB we signed (who I guess may not have been first choice) has been injured. The big imposing centre-back we signed has been injured. We did try to fill some holes, even if the hole-fillers haven't all yet excelled. Indeed, of the summer signings you might say Schon (if erratic) has done the most so far. He's certainly had the most minutes - I make it 1279, compared to Matete 995, McAtee 963, Southwood 810, Arfield 531, Forino 395, Osei-Tutu 308, Lolos 174.

I think Morley's stats at Wycombe are pretty similar to Sheehan's. Last season, he looked a long way off. The one that's most obviously different is long balls. :-)

As to the other bits, we went into last couple of league weeks playing Matete and Sheehan (so didn't directly replace Demps, for me) but McAtee, Collins and Adeboyejo seemed to work in front of them in the last couple of games. It's going to be "interesting" when everyone is back fit...

Folk seem to be saying the 3-4-2-1 works better against back fours. It's good that we can switch - something I've said since at least season two that Evatt should be getting his teams to do. Question is what we do today if Stockport play their usual back three.

Put it this way - is there anyone now who doesn’t want him to go?

Forget sacking him. Any half respectable human being would have resigned now. Evatt is happy to take the money. Doesn’t even have the bottle to walk when he knows he’s failed.

It would cost him hundreds of thousands of pounds to walk.

Yep. And he knows Sharon is too spineless to act. So he has a lovely cushy number. At our expense.

No. It wouldn't cost him anything. It would prevent future income. They're not the same thing.

At least we know we can count our local journalist to ask some questions and not be flattered by any video messages he may (allegedly) send!

Oh good the video is now circulating social media. Put me right off my tea. Ughhh.

I don’t need managers to be likeable. If they win.

But Evatt is a terrible manager and a terrible person all in one. It’s hard to find anything to redeem even the tiniest morsel of sympathy.
