Genuinely gutted it didn't work out. Thanks for the good memories Ian.
I don't expect his replacement to be in soon and I wouldn't be surprised if Sam Allardyce walks through the door to "help out"

We might also start to get a notion with a new manager of whether buying small toys that break a lot was being driven by the football department or the recruitment department.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:58 amThank the lord.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:57 amApparently they have all gone, Crainey, Atherton & Gilks.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:55 amWonder if they’ll turf Atherton and keep Crainey as caretaker (or “interim”)

Does this mean that they may have someone lined up ?, as there is no one to take over as interim or caretaker.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:58 amThank the lord.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:57 amApparently they have all gone, Crainey, Atherton & Gilks.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:55 amWonder if they’ll turf Atherton and keep Crainey as caretaker (or “interim”)

Re: The ianevattable sacking
Couldn't agree more. I wanted it to work and I backed him longer than many. I wish him no ill will, but glad he's gone.
Not sure about this - do we take our time, or hurry up to give the new manager some window to work with?
Couldn't agree less. I don't think he'd do it and I don't think Sharon would either. But who knows....
Re: The ianevattable sacking
They've asked me to step in for a few games.
Shall I play four-four-fecking-two?

Re: The ianevattable sacking
I'd hope they've at least been keeping an eye on alternatives in recent months given this was a real possibility. Hoping it is a quick permanent appointment.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:14 amCouldn't agree more. I wanted it to work and I backed him longer than many. Re: The ianevattable sacking
ooof. Big risk that IMO. Got Huddersfield promoted with a negative goal difference, and though he did well to keep them up, it's not been impressive since. Went to Schalke, sacked after just over a year following a run of 18 winless games. Went to a Swiss club that had won the league for thre consectuive seasons, finished 15pts off the top, was sacked. Went to Norwich, who'd been bouncing between the top two divisions, didn't get them promoted.
I mean, maybe. But also maybe not.

Re: The ianevattable sacking
Looking at last night, I think you might need to start with a sweeper. But it depends if your 442 comes with aimlessley possessing the football, or tackling, heading and fast transitions...
When I look back at the 90 minutes "entertainment" am I going to say we scored 4 (lets call that 8 minutes), but the rest of the time fcuk all happened or will it have been a leave it all out there game?

Yeah his post Huddersfield record feels a bit ‘no thanks’. Having said that a famous manager also came here with a fairly dubious and mixed record….also did little afterwards too.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:22 amooof. Big risk that IMO. Re: The ianevattable sacking
Bit of a left field shout but Damien Duff is somebody who’s been impressing over in Ireland as manager of Shelbourne. He led them to their first league title in 18 years last season.
He didn’t just waltz into that job on the back of his name either - he’s done the hard yards coaching wise, starting out at Shamrock Rovers U15s before coaching Ireland youth teams and the Celtic reserves.
Fun fact: his assistant at Shelbourne is none other than Mr Joey O’Brien
I’m guessing the Ludonautics data nerds will have some sort of input into potential managers to target for interviews, so some obscure names from further afield may crop up.

Yeah, I'm not expecting to have heard of them. I'm fine with that.
Noooooot Rooney, and a back 4. And then que sera, Sera.

Yep I like that. Sounds an interesting left field call. I suspect he might be too outspoken or controversial for Sharon though.brommers95 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:46 amBit of a left field shout but Damien Duff is somebody who’s been impressing over in Ireland as manager of Shelbourne. Iles seems to suggest that it’s unlikely to be someone in a job due to timescales which I think is just a musing but one I’d probably concur with unless Sharon will delay an appointment to end of the season and go with a temporary fix.
Re: The ianevattable sacking
Some reflective points:
There have been rumours circling the club for months, if not years, about gambling addiction (Where did that £100k loan in the accounts to a ‘Staff member’ go to?) and around affairs and a marriage break up. Losing a job on top of those things, if true, could have a serious impact on a person’s psychology and I’m genuinely saddened it hasn’t worked out for Evatt as well as us. You’d have to have a heart of stone not to see the human side of this, although I’m sure many won’t! I wish Evatt well and hope he finds some personal peace and can restart his career elsewhere.
Crainey has also gone. Is it too unkind to draw attention to the fact that once he joined us, an admittedly wobbling defence became much worse, whilst Wigan’s became almost impenetrable? I’d love to see the stats around that to make a judgement whether that’s cause and effect or coincidence…….or just my over active imagination.
Onwards and upwards. Is it too late to save the season? I suspect not, although the length of any deal offered to an incoming manager will be interesting. Do the board still see it as a long term project or do they want immediate results?
