I hope we're steering clear of anyone about who the words "he was injured quite a lot" can be said.

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Schuey says about player recruitment: "You have just got to find the right players and get the right personalities, more than anything. You've got to get people who have high standards every day, train properly, professionally, and can carry out what you've asked them to do on the pitch, week in, week out, and be consistent."
That would seem to rule out the "injured quite a lot" brigade, which, tbh, isn't very inclusive. He should embrace diversity.

Maybe - he’s had a couple of seasons with calf injuries on and off.
But he’s the exact right sort of profile. Experienced. Loads of higher level experience. Solid. Dependable.
Maybe he’s too injury prone of late but equally calf problems are less ‘oh’ to me that recurring knee issues.
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
For me, I’d be prioritising signing experienced free agents at centre back, central mid, and up front. Wide forwards and full backs I feel are positions well suited to young loanees, so if possible, that’s how I’d be focusing recruitment.

Our man in the inside said a little while ago that Santos is definitely leaving.

Fckin hell absolute dagger to the heart of the past and completely spot on. When you can’t incorporate players who have experience and win and you want to be bigger than them - that’s when you are done for. Schumacher is spot on.
“You look at Sarce (Antoni Sarcevic) and he’s just got a sixth one with Bradford City. It’s a different division, that’s fine, OK, but you still need to have what it takes to drive standards and demand that everyone around you is doing the same. I think that is something we’re probably missing here as well.“

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Sarce is a very weird one. Plenty of talk around here about a toxic changing room these days, so it's odd for fans to champion the captain who had an absolute pissy fit because he wasn't allowed to play against his old mates. Plenty of talk about wanting people who lead the charge to the higher levels, to be the best you can be, so it's odd to champion the guy who three times has walked out on teams to drop down the divisions. (Hats off to Pru for noting he'll presumably be leaving Bradford soon.)
To be fair, he didn't walk out on Plymouth to do that (we were both fourth-tier when he left there for here), so Schumacher may well have only happy memories of him. But yeah, I suspect there's some retro-fitting going on, including from some Twitter trumpets who were presumably among the many calling Sarce a fat waster for at least some of his time here.

Personally I always thought that episode reflected poorly on Evatt not the player. Sarcevic may be a big head but these players who have continually led teams to success as captains - it’s not accidental. Sure we might have said we need a better player but that should have happened naturally and his leadership qualities replaced.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 8:07 amSarce is a very weird one. Evatt’s ego was imo the issue all the time. He didn’t like players who would raise anything or answer back or strong enough to question stuff.

He left them for us on a Bosman as they'd gone up and we'd gone down didn't he?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 8:07 amTo be fair, he didn't walk out on Plymouth to do that (we were both fourth-tier when he left there for here),
What a loss he was at the time. We'd had a few days down in Plymouth around the game and seen a miserable looking squad the morning after getting on the bus to go home. Evatt left separately in his car. On the long drive home on the Thursday(?), I listened incredulously as Mrs G read out to me that our talisman was leaving us to go non league. As journeys home from Plymouth go, it was pretty miserable but I believe others may have had worse

As ever there's a balance. I don't think we've held our players to "minimum standard" for a while, at the other end of that scale is toxic dressing room. I think you need a bit of accountability. How many times have we heard this season just gone, words akin to "The players have been honest with themselves post match?"BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 8:41 amPersonally I always thought that episode reflected poorly on Evatt not the player. A, truth but like managers and financial wizards, even coaches need horses to make them function.(Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 5:14 pmHe can get rid of anyone for me. The one signing we absolutely need is a coach (not at Schumacher level) who undertsands "defence."

I think you need a balance but much of that comes down to a manager/head coach able to manage multiple personalities and blend them into a useful team. Allardyce was the master at this. He learned early in his career that you had to if you wanted the best players be able to do this.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 9:40 amAs ever there's a balance. Schumacher talks the talk - says the right things - which is refreshing after what came before - but now has to walk the walk and demonstrate it in reality. Easy to say we need ‘leaders and winners and strong characters’ but what that means in practice in the cut and thrust of a window with not many natural squad spaces to fill is a different matter.

Sarce likes being a big fish, but given his limited ability he chooses smaller ponds. We need decent players who want better, not egos larger than ability.
