That would seem to rule out the "injured quite a lot" brigade, which, tbh, isn't very inclusive. He should embrace diversity.

Maybe - he’s had a couple of seasons with calf injuries on and off.

But he’s the exact right sort of profile. Experienced. Loads of higher level experience. Solid. Dependable.

Maybe he’s too injury prone of late but equally calf problems are less ‘oh’ to me that recurring knee issues.

For me, I’d be prioritising signing experienced free agents at centre back, central mid, and up front. Wide forwards and full backs I feel are positions well suited to young loanees, so if possible, that’s how I’d be focusing recruitment.

Fckin hell absolute dagger to the heart of the past and completely spot on. When you can’t incorporate players who have experience and win and you want to be bigger than them - that’s when you are done for. Schumacher is spot on.

Plenty of talk around here about a toxic changing room these days, so it's odd for fans to champion the captain who had an absolute pissy fit because he wasn't allowed to play against his old mates. Plenty of talk about wanting people who lead the charge to the higher levels, to be the best you can be, so it's odd to champion the guy who three times has walked out on teams to drop down the divisions. Personally I always thought that episode reflected poorly on Evatt not the player. Sarcevic may be a big head but these players who have continually led teams to success as captains - it’s not accidental. Sure we might have said we need a better player but that should have happened naturally and his leadership qualities replaced.

Evatt’s ego was imo the issue all the time. He didn’t like players who would raise anything or answer back or strong enough to question stuff.

What a loss he was at the time. We'd had a few days down in Plymouth around the game and seen a miserable looking squad the morning after getting on the bus to go home. Evatt left separately in his car. On the long drive home on the Thursday(?), I listened incredulously as Mrs G read out to me that our talisman was leaving us to go non league. As journeys home from Plymouth go, it was pretty miserable but I believe others may have had worse

I think you need a balance but much of that comes down to a manager/head coach able to manage multiple personalities and blend them into a useful team. Allardyce was the master at this. He learned early in his career that you had to if you wanted the best players be able to do this.
